Agreed. Beat cop is probably out, but they would probably fit in quite nicely on a SWAT team as a spotter or assistant to a negotiator. And if all hell breaks loose, infiltration and taking the first shot.

If the subject is aware that he may be under examination, lie detectors, furry or otherwise, can be blocked. Obviously, the blocking raises suspicions of its own.

For example, working up a fury at the idea of being questioned, and responding to every question with internalized fury, can skew the baseline to the point that the results are pretty much useless. However, it is a giveaway that you are not cooperating with the exam. If you are an enemy prisoner, that is fine. Artificial fury cannot be maintained 24/7. If monitoring, furry or otherwise, is continuous, waiting for fatigue and relaxation of the artificial fury gives some chance of surprising a real response with an unexpected question or other stimulus such as the unexpected presentation of a representation of a person of interest.

If it is a matter of answering yes or no questions in court, the treecat would have to say, "All I get clearly is a lot of anger." Any suggestion that it might be contrived anger will be objected to as speculation on the part of the witness unless he can provide conclusive evidence to demonstrate that it is more than speculation. It might be possible to meet the standards of civil litigation where parties face forfeit of the case if they fail to provide the required degree of cooperation. Criminal litigation is generally more restricted and the requirement to cooperate varies depending upon the legal tradition.

I haven't seen any textev that treecats can't differentate between emotions felt at the same time. Of course I have missed a thing or two in the past that has been pointed out to me rather brutally in this forum. Please don't bust me back down to ensign if you show up with fifteen instances where Nimitz got confused!

Hmm, as the 'cats hunters and scouts leave the clans to guard humans and become fury lie detectors, the food they provided for the clan from hunting and forging will need to be replaced so their pay will be meat and vegetables for their clans, with a little celery no doubt

What if several clans are getting ready to split up because of overpopulation in clan areas. We know that Bright Water has been sending out colonist to Grayson and Gryphon.

We know that the colonists on Grayson are from Bright Water, but as far as I can remember, there is no mention of which clan is colonizing Gryphon. For that matter, we don't know if there is a clan on Manticore.

Bright Water is the first clan to send out colonists, but we have no evidence that it is the only one sending out people. Since the Yawata Strike, the treecats realize the stakes as surely as the humans. More clans will be looking for places to go. The ability to purchase property anywhere will eventually cause the assembled clans to recognize the need for some kind of credit exchange.
