Who would make a good Honor Harrington in a Movie/TV role?

Nothing wrong with beautiful.

DW never said Honor wasn't beautiful. On the contrary. What he said was she wasn't 'pretty'. Only 'beautiful'.

On my page that rules out the girly-girl, off-the-rack, standard 'beauties' of todays show biz.

It doesn NOT rule out someone beautiful. But it has to be someone with a lot of character and charisma and a hard edge - in the lines of Sigourney Weaver or the darker roles Charlize Theron has played. Both have been named here already of course and both are too old.

It would be best to avoid A-list actresses for the role of HH. You do not want to have the entire movie budget eaten up paying for a couple big headliners.

Also the actors picked have to be young. There is the prolong angle and you will want to have more than one movie out of the franchise. Considering that is takes more than two years to get a movie from script to screen there is enough material here to keep a cast busy for a couple of decades.

Don't really care. If she's a hottie who can act, I'm good.

There have been other James Bonds and James Kirks, there can be other Honor Harrington actresses.

Agreed. acting nous and reasonably close lloks to the description of honor are all that are needed. really really good looks are a bonus.

If she's hot enough, it doesn't matter to me if she's not even close to Honor's description. But she'd have to be 'on fire hot' to pull that off.

She does have to act though. Bad acting can screw up anything even the fact that an uber-hottie is playing Honor.

    I think janina gavankar is quite a good lookalike. If you compare her to the portrait on basilisk station there's are certain resemblance

    Honor Harrington to me requires 2 actresses to play that role.
    1. A gawky, frizzy haired teen
    2. A tall 6' or over woman (Brooke Shields comes to mind)

    You mean Halle Berry for Elizabeth and Naomi Campbell for Michelle. I think ,however, that Honor Harrington saga so to speak would be like 007 movies. Unknown but competent actors.

    Personally, I have always imagined Angelina Jolie for that particular spot. NOT based on her Tomb Raider role, although that's a good solid basis for the character, but based on her role of "Franky" Cook in "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow". She looks half Asian already. She even has the eyepatch (even if it IS on the wrong eye!) :D

    Every time I watch that DVD, I can't help but think, "she's halfway there now." The attitude, mannerisms, bearing, command authority all seem to already be present. The only thing that seems to be missing is Nimitz!

    Young Honor could be played by the new Dr's companion on Dr Who, http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Jenna-Louise_Coleman

    She has the right look, with a little something exotic in her but not quite sure which, and she is a good actress.
