So?
It would mean more Honorverse movies, and it would mean that lots of stuff wouldn't be cut out. A movie script is apparently about 120 pages, so how much more could he do with 240 or 360 pages to work with, instead of 120. it gives him more room and scope. And It would probably gain an oscar or too as well.......

Sorry, no matter how much you like the material it is not oscar-bait.

I don't agree that Peter Jackson bloats stuff. He does good character arcs andthematic pacing.

Despite what some are saying, OBS is actually quite good source material for a movie adaptation if you tweak it a little. It is well paced and builds to a climactic ending and comes with a resonable sized cast of characters with (by now) established characters and backstories to draw on.

The newer novels (anything after the Theisman coup) just have too much going on and too many characters for a film to be made of them (even if the previos books had already been done, establishing the characters) without 90% being cut.

Those in the middle would probably make good films, but not as the first: the setting needs to be introduced first with a simple plot before we tackle cultural conflicts and more complicated plots.

[quote="Bohica"]...or, who do you envision playing that part in a Movie/TV Series?

how about ellie chidzey?

Hi glowell

Welcome to the forums. Use the url key above the smiles to put links in. You can use Img key for photos or emoticons, note don't try to post photos much over 400 pixels wide the machine stops you at 600 pixels wide. For block quotes use the Quote key, add =" Who ever" between the word quote within the brackets, no spaces except within the quote marks IE within the brckets quote="Who Ever". Don't remove the brackets /quote when you're putting in other posts. I fixed your link here:

I'd rather see a TV series than a (series of) movie(s) - once the First Havenite War starts, and particularly in more recent books, the continuing threads of a TV show seem like a better fit than the self-contained episodes of a movie series. On Basilisk Station and Honor of the Queen might not fit so well with the time-jumps and varying casts - for that matter, the shifting bridge crews are the sort of thing that give TV/movies fits - they like to stick with a stable core cast rather than following a realistic pattern of promotions and reassignments.

So, yeah, TV series - with TiVo and On-Demand so widespread, there's no longer the need there was 10-15 years ago for it to be possible to skip episodes or see episodes out of order and still follow the plot, so more sustained and intricate plots are viable.

I have to agree with this one. I keep thinking about the movie idea and I do like it. But I can see Honorverse as a TV series a whole lot easier. Shoot you could do an entire season with just one book like OBS.

Rani Mukerji.
She is short, but she is solid,
and she moves with a dancer's grace.
She has the experience and the dignitas to
play a commander's role.
By some accounts she is the best actress in India.

Yes. Done by HBO with a budget in the stratosphere. The early books, one per season. The bigger books more than one season per book. Hey, I can dream :-)

For a director...Ridley Scott would be interesting but perhaps some up and comer none of us knows yet but who loves the stories and has a genuine feel for them.

Respectfully disagree.
I believe it would mean sitting in a theater watching President-for-life Harris and his minions blabbing through conferences and detailed planning.

As for an Oscar, depends on the Special Effects because that is the only thing SF films ever win. Further, I do not think for one minute that the film will be so successful that any subsequent effort will be greenlighted if they make OBS into a trilogy.

I've been reading long book series for 30ish years now and came up with a slightly different strategy than one or the other. The Honor Harrington series is perfect for this kind of strategy. On Basilisk station as a theatrical release would be well suited to a film or TV mini-series as an introduction to the universe. I could be trimmed down to a 2.5 - 3 hour movie or done as a two part mini-series. The mini series would allow for more side character development such as Reynaud and Venezuelos (sp?) at Astro control, Scotty and Harkness ransacking mercies and Governor Matstuko, the Peeps and Summervale planet side.

If that was successful Honor of the Queen would follow in the same or similar format and launch the series with Short Victorious War. That, Field of Dishonor and Flag in Exile are a single story when strung together and perfect setup for what follows. If that Arc is a success as serial television you then have the setup for the later Shadow of Saganami spinoff with Honor Among Enemies introducing Wonderboy and Lewis. This could also be done as a mini-series ala Torchwood: Miracle Day before going back to serial TV with In Enemy Hands and Echoes of Honor. The key would be not boring the audience with the tech geek stuff so many of us like and not padding the stories to flesh out a season. If the book lends itself to 26 episodes do it, if you can only get 13 good episodes, do that.

Now this is an excellent idea. I had not even thought of the mini-series format. We can only hope. :)
