Are you sure you aren't just out to get me?

(No problems.)

Fellow DW fans:

If I may re-phrase my post of Thu Aug 16, 2012 3:16 pm:

The problem is, that I can't make any (or at least most) of the Android E-book Apps read the "BaenCD" files (directly from the disk or) from "http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/".

I have been able to get SOME files read when they were downloaded from the Baen Free Book collection, but this is a much more limited selection than those that were included with those Hard Cover books that I did purchase (as well as those I did not purchase).

So, to rephrase:
What am I doing wrong? -OR-
Are the BaenCD files inherently not compatible with E-book readers for Android?

Examples: Do I need to only use type XYZ files with the ABC reader, or will I always have to convert the type UVW type files using the DEF file conversion program?

In both cases - CDs from my hardcover books and the downloaded fifthempirion stuff - I either read them directly on my desktop using Calibre or use Calibre to convert them to another format for my lap top or tablet. These files are not DRM protected so it works easily.
I'd suggest you get someone with a real PC to use Calibre to convert them for you then find an Android app that will read the converted file.
As you might guess I regard tablets as useful toys but use a quadcore desktop when ever I can in preference(bit hard when traveling or for late night reading in bed I concede).

OK, do you have the Sony Reader app? It appears to only like .epub files. Try downloading them.

Hi Thirdbase

?? How do you remove DRM from a file ??

I've only acquired one DRM encoded file, and once I removed the DRM, Calibre changed its format with no problem.

I found a, probably less than truly legal, DRM remover online and used it. It was a demo and had a time limit for use, so I don't remember what it is called, but I only had one book DRM encoded.

I just downloaded The Best of Jim Baen's Universe CD in the CD.ZIP form to a Google Nexus 7 with Jelly Bean.

I then looked into the file with a file manager called X-Plorer. I found Arthur C. Clarke's Rescue Party and it was perfectly readable. Didn't even have to unzip the whole file.

I got on the "Google Play" app (Android Market), searched for "X-Plorer" and found this: "ES File Explorer File Manager" by EStrongs Inc.

* Does this sound like the App you tried?

* It seems different than the one seen at "http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=xplore".

This is it:

I have ES Filemanager but it did not work as well for this as X-Plore.
