Hi Spacekiwi

Most of my computers are Windows-based.

So, I'm interested in Windows-based software.

Thanks for answering my post.

I dont have the comp its installed on with me at the mo, and cant remember the name, but i found it by googling anti drm software ebooks, and the platform and file type i wanted to unlock. I had a look at calibre, which was recommended by someone else in this thread, and it looks pretty useful as well. searching for youtube videos can also help.

Hi Spacekiwi

I already have the "calibre" softwre on my Windws machine.

It is the translator that refuses to process DRM protected files.

Ah. ok.
is the translator aspect of the unlocking just not working through calibre? Is it giving you a specific error message or just a general cant complete action error? And what file types is it refusing to translate? Multiple types, or just one type in particular? If worst comes to worst, try a new system other than calibre.

Calibre doesn't process DRM encoded files. It's "nonpirating" software. So unless the programmers have hidden a backdoor method of bypassing DRM, it won't do anything with them.

Hi Thirdbase

Thanks for the info.

I guess I'll have to continue reading using kindle (not too bad a choice) even though I do prefer using some of the other readers out there.

I have a Sony eReader, and just got a Sony Android tablet. I'm quite annoyed at the tablet, because the instruction manual has where the on/off button is and that is about all. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to get it out of sleep mode.

I was meaning that the file translation system in calibre between foemats, was that working properly? For normal files, as well as recently unlocked files now without drm. sometimes the unlocking software leaves you unable to change the file format afterwards due to problems in the code.

I've only acquired one DRM encoded file, and once I removed the DRM, Calibre changed its format with no problem.

Um, I never said I was. I was only answering questions about Calibre.

Problems with my tablet, consist only of the constant guessing games as to how to get it to do what I want, where things are hidden in memory, why it zooms/unzooms sometimes and doesn't other times, and so on and so on.

For example I learned how to copy/paste on accident the other day, and open things in a new tab. Although the copy/paste doesn't always work.
