Ummm, yeah. It was meant as the setup for the next couple of facts in the list...

And I see facts about Berry and Helen Zilwicki... nice one Yannosh!

Chief Steward MacGuiness once made a pot of cocoa in a cave. With a box of scraps.
Chief Steward MacGuiness was once attacked by a hexapuma. He fought it off with nothing more than a stick of celery, a serving tray and a disapproving look.
Chief Steward MacGuiness's treecat name is "Cannot Be Stopped"
Chief Steward MacGuiness can make cocoa out of native Hades wildlife. Nobody can tell the difference.
Chief Steward MacGuiness causes birds to flee from him at all times. They have to do it on foot, because he is completely unflappable.
BuShips is planning to build their next Superdreadnought class from the same material as Chief Steward MacGuiness, as they have discovered he is completely indestructible.
BuShips is also planning to replace hydrogen as standard starship fuel with Chief Steward MacGuiness's coffee.

And I'll bet Honor wished he was on Hell with her, but unfortunately she had to fend for herself on that jaunt.

Harkness is a specialist, a geek. He was made a WO specifically because his technical skills far surpassed his command skills.

<Sir Harkness able to destroy warships with a ship's wedge.

<Sir Harkness able to eleminate the national debt with a few lines of code, 'Taxes? Taxes? Who needs stinking Taxes when we can skim a percentage from everybody.'

<Sir Harkness who built a working Star Trek transporter just so he can say, 'Beam me up, Scotty.'

<Come on Honorverse Geeks what else can Sir Harkness do that's funny? Ugh O is that a Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy finite improbability generator he has, no he would not move Honor Harrington's undies three feet to the left would he?>

Hi all,

I'm slipping Humor made it to page 2 Well here is a baseball joke from Baen's Bar 1632 Tech worth a laugh even though a groaner:

virginiademarce wrote:

On a remote mountain, situated upon the border between modern-day Greece and Macedonia, stands an ancient convent. Once it flourished and was known as a center of religious life, learning, and culture. However, the years have not been kind. It was sacked by the Nazis during the Second World War. Since then, as fewer women have chosen a religious vocation and donations have all but dried up, the number of nuns at the convent has continually declined. Today, only one remains an elderly nun who makes her best efforts to keep up the old buildings and maintain the grounds, and to show faithful Christian hospitality to the occasional visitor.

But in ancient times, the site was important and noteworthy. The ancient Greeks erected a temple there to Eros, the god of love, and adorned the temple with a large marble statue of the god. Pilgrims from throughout Greece traveled to the temple to pay homage to their deity. Over time, Greek officials and legal scholars also came to use the temple as a library and repository of their most important legal documents and writs, with records of the laws of their cities and the cases brought before their courts.

After the Romans conquered the territory, the temple began to decline in importance. Attila and his army of Huns took possession of it for a time, and occupied it as a temporary field headquarters during a military expedition. Attila learned of the existence of the ancient legal writs, and took them along with him when he left on his next campaign, in the hope of discovering timeless legal principles to aid him in governing his unruly and undisciplined tribesmen. Unfortunately, following Attila's death soon thereafter, the writs were forever lost.

Christianity became the dominant faith in the region, and in time a convent was established on the site of the ancient temple. Deeming the great statue of Eros an unsuitable pagan distraction in a house of Christian worship and contemplation, an early mother superior caused it to be reduced to rubble, which was then used to prepare a foundation for the construction of a new convent building. Though the convent prospered for many centuries, today it appears to be nearing the end of its long and distinguished history.

And thus, if a traveler approaches, he may chance to see the last remaining sister of the order, aged and lonely, looking out from her windswept mountaintop retreat, pondering her pathetic situation . . .

No Huns, no writs, no Eros, and nun left on base.

I translated the pun for our non native English speaking Barflies, "No Runs, no hits, no errors, and a run left on base."

Then got the following:

If you want a good joke, with a DW book length wait for the punch line, there is always:

Very long, but a great punchline.
It should make for an enjoyable break from the wait for the upcoming Honorverse books, as well as all the other books on the way.

Anybody know if someone's re-written the Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear into the Weber Litany Against Grav-Lances? Might make a good sig or t-shirt...

Chief, "Well on Baen's Bar they asked which Havenite would get adopted first, and as you know thread drift occurs started thinking of treecat naming for them:

Ok, taking bets here. Who will be the first two-legs from the Republic of Haven to be adopted? While I can think of several Havenites who are good candidates, I'm putting my two cents, (virtual) on Victor Cachat. Oh, and I'd love to hear what everyone thinks their candidate's treecat name will be. We know Pritchard's and Theisman's. Spear of Justice for Cachat? Hmmm...

Victor Cachat has one of the most calm mind glows known among two-legs. I wouldn't be surprised if his treecat name would be something like Composer of Peace.

He's not a singer, but, his actions and knowledge inform the whole Republic of Haven, thus, composer not singer of peace (someone who writes the songs..). Peace for multiple reasons and because orderer of chaos and creator of peace didn't fit as well.

An alternative treecat name I thought for Victor was Fearless Hunter, but, the treecats wouldn't know of why he might deserve the name.

Mange, <Since Laughs Brightly who you know as Nimitz is likely the source of treecat names for the Havenites, and he has a Wicked since of humor what do you think he would name Victor Cachat or other non named two-legs of the Havenite flavor?>

"How about 'Hidden Hunter'?"

<Come on Chief, a humorus name like "Two-leg enemies bane"?>

"Oh, oh, 'The Joke's on You'?"

<Come on guys put your humorous minds to work on it for Vicor. Oh, lets not forget Mike Hinke's treecat name. What would Nimitz have named her at the academy?>
