LOL. Don't give them ideas - I can see the thread now. Complete with steam powered hydrojets...

And so what is wrong with steam powered hydrofoils?

Well, obviously. It has been mentioned again and again how many mainland realms pride themselves on their horse cavalry, and aside from Corisande, there is no sign that any member of the Empire of Charis fields much in the way of cavalry (caltrops, anyone?).

So, with that in mind, doubtless Mr. Howsmyn had decided to concentrate his efforts on...steam powered tanks. [G]

I recall RFC implying that the Empire does have cavalry outside Corisande. I suspect the ICA cav is part of the larger part of the ICA still in Chisholm.

Hi PeterZ

Charis may have some cavalry but not a very large troop IMO.

After all, their traditional strength is the navy and not land forces.

Their scouts are schooners, not horses.

We know that Charis has traditionally focussed on its navy with some Marines and a non existant, or very small army but, what sort of cavalry force can the former Chisholm Army portions of the ICA field?

And if Young prince Daivyn and Princess Irys can turn public opinion around in Corisand its possible that General whats his Name (the Corisandian Calvalry Commander) could be leading a Corisandan Cavalry force in the ICA before too long

Hi Emo Otaku

If Alyk Windshare is ever put in charge of Charisian cavalry, he better have a strong leader to follow.

Alyk has admitted that he tends to charge first and think later and that attitude could be really really Not Good for the good guys.

OTOH, he has been described as a very good cavalry man.

Any opinions out there ??

People there is textev that charisian marines had an unit of cavalry, when they landed on corisande at certain point cayleb comment he would like to have a more dense cavalry scout force but that he couldnt since the horses were still recovering their land legs.

So if the marines had cavalry, you don't think the formal army wont have at least a batallion of cavalry just for scout purposes?.

Edit: here is the textev
By Heresies distressed wrote:"I agree," Anvil Rock said, nodding vigorously. "Another thing to con-sider is that after a voyage as long as the one between here and Charis—or even between here and Chisholm—his cavalry mounts and draft animals are going to need at least a five-day or two on land before they're going to be ready for any sort of serious campaigning."
........................................................
In the meantime, the invasion force's horses and draft dragons required enough time to regain their land legs before moving into the field, anyway, so Cayleb and his advisers had always planned on spending at least the first couple of five-days consolidating their hold on Dairos while their animals recovered and their supplies came ashore.

I havent found yet the text where he said he would like a more dense scouting force if I find it I post it.

The RFC post I allude to suggests that Chisholm actually does have a significant cavalry contingent. They also are probably best at implementing the combined arms approach.

From a plot perspective, watching Alyk, Koryn and the artillerist (I forget his name) trying to integrate their more traditional forces to the ICA and commenting on the differences would be an interesting thing to read.
