Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born 15 April 1990) is an English actress and model. Watson rose to prominence playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. Lifted from Wikipedia.

She would be my choice if I were casing director, experienced series actress, and young at age twenty one. See she even looks good in short hair. A little make up for Asian eyes. Looks athletic too.

As seen above with her co-stars not real short for a female. Some platform boot action, and she would tower over males on set.

PS Self confident with just enough snerky-ness to pull off Honor Harrington I think.

Just remember that Daniel Radcliffe is about 5'5 and looks about 5'1. He probably makes Tom Cruise look as tall as James Cromwell. So naturally he makes Emma watson seem tall enough to play HH.

But as I've said before we'll have to accept there is no 2 meter tall actress out there. Camera work will just make her appear taller.

A relative (and inexpensive) unknown will likely be chosen for the role. Much of the budget (wonder how much is in the budget?) will hopefully be seen on the screen.

Now, a show of hands. How many people think the guys making this movie are paying any attention to what is said on this Topic? Ok. And how many think that the guys making this movie are paying a lot of attention to what their casting director is showing them? Uh-huh. As long as everybody understands that what we are doing is just having fun, then we are still on the right side of the sane/insane barrier.

How can you have a show of hands when we're wearing straitjackets? Yeah, this is all in fun, but if the producers of HHTM (Honor Harrington The Movie) have any smarts, they'll recognize the existence of this fanbase and at least consider the general parameters we're laying down. Casting some giggling blonde cleavage monster as Honor would really put a knot in my skinsuit's plumbing connections.

I don't think they care a rat fart about us, though more often than you think an enterprising intern or assistant will hop on the forums / social media sites and poke around, then share what they find out.

The true hope however is that Hollywood is trending toward more realistic, gritty, and even flawed characters. The general feeling (from what I've read) is that that's why Superman Returns didn't do as well as Batman or Iron Man (etc.) But regardless of subject matter (superheroes, scifi, action, etc.) I think the chance that there will be a mischaracterization seems pretty small to me.

Another risk is that the studio won't invest enough money and thus it comes out as a "B" grade because it's starved for resources across the board. It's possible to do an "A" film with low budget but it seems like that's the exception, not the rule. DW if he insists on creative control and being involved throughout could possibly ensure this.

The question is how much attention will be paid to us, the HH fanbase by Hollywood. For a recent example, lets look at the Transformers franchise.

Michael Bey(keep him away from HH, since it's character, not explosion-driven!) was smart enough to recognize that only Peter Cullen could credibly voice Optimus Prime. He chose Hugo Weaving for Megatron over Frank Welker, however for the first movie. He did try to appease the fanbase by bringing Welker in to voice Sounwave in the second film. Then he further pleased the real TF fans by having Leonard Nimoy(Galvatron is the animated TF movie) voice Sentinel Prime. As a big-time TF fan and collector, I was reasonably pleased by the films, in spite of some questionable plotlines. The overall casting was good, especially in the first and third films.

Hopefully DW, in an executive producing role can keep the HH movie(and hopefully franchise) on track with the vision presented in the books. If he retains significant input over casting, like J.K. Rowling did for the Harry Potter films it should turn out OK. If some Michael Bey type, or worse- Paul W.S. Anderson, McG, etc. gets their hands on HH- it'll suck.

Serious? Serious about a movie? Moi? Never!
Mel Brooks can write the script and Amy Sedaris can play Honor.
But I sincerely hope not. Really.

You are exactly right, rdt. It is just possible, based on what David has said about the production team, that one or more of them is enough of a series fan to have spent a little time on the Bar or these forums, and has a small sense of fanbase leanings. Of course, the production team will also know that the HH fanbase is only a small fraction of the audience that they must sell this film to in order to even break even, and that the names and visuals of the actors involved will be a much bigger factor in getting the needed numbers through the doors.

It is exteremely likely, again from what David has said so far, that the team will inquire as to David's leanings on the type of actors for major roles, and maybe have him meet the final cut candidates. The HP polks did this much for Rowling.

However, those prefs will scarcely be the major considerations on the final hiring decisions.

Finally, let's not forget that casting offers are quite often turned down by the 'first pick', either because the final shooting schedule doesn't fit other commitments, or because of other offers, or because the actor has reconsidered the 'fit' of the character after seeing a more complete treatment, etc, etc.

Its a process of accommodation of a lot of people and factors, and VERY hard to predict (except when the producer is also the screenwriter and married to an actress =grin=).

I don't think we can extrapolate from Rowling's relationship with Warner Bros. Rowling had the absolute mega-hit book series of the century, and the studio was willing to meet her demands in order to get the franchise. IIRC, her contract required up front that she have casting input (which, thank the Goddess, kept Haley Joel Osment out of the role of Harry).

While we all love Honor Harrington, we have to face the fact that this movie series is not going to have the preproduction mega-buzz of the Potter saga.

As I understood the stories floated about Rowlings deal, she had casting input, i.e. her opinions of suitability, particularly of the children, would be considered as part of the casting decision. However, she insisted up front on a contract guarantee that a British schoolboy would be cast as Harry.

Steven Spielberg was in negotiations to produce and direct, but he had envisioned Osment in the role from his first reading; his company had a standing contract with Osment and Spielberg was looking for a project to do featuring the young man. This was very shortly after Sixth Sense when the boy was the hottest youth prospect on the planet. When Rowling declined to waive her requirement for a British actor, Spielberg passed on the project, no hard feelings. Osment was never actually tested or offered the job.
