Folks, this has been hashed out on the Bar many times - Claudia Christian is 46 years old, and we are talking about a film that won't start shooting for at least a year, with a potagonist who should appear no more than upper 20's, and a movies series that will last, if it sells, for 15+ years. At which point the protagonist needs to be able to look 35-40. I love the lady's work, but even David acknowledges that she is too old.
I would accept Summer Glau in a second as far as acting chops to handle the role (though I have other favorites), but she is on the mall side at 5'6".
I sorta favor Jennifer Carpenter (5'9+") or Morena Baccarin (Firefly, V, Homeland - 5'7+")
Kiera Knightly would be a good choice, and very good in terms of the combination of age w/ acting chops, but she is too A-list/expensive/booked-up.
Charliz Theron would probably be my top pick but she is also too a-list, and I suspect that she would not want to commit for an extensive series, given the scope of her role choices to date. She's a hair older than most of my favorites (Ok- a lot older than Knightley), but I would trust her talent to suspend the disbelief of any audience, with a little make-up help.

@Panagotia <G> Always thought Claudia Christian would do a great job, but it starts with Honor a little too young. I'll be interesting!

She'd definitely need to cut her hair for OBS... that might be a deal killer right there. [G]
Like I said, I dunno if she could pull off Honor the ship commander, especially the Honor Harrington who inspires her depressed crew to get it together. As for the athletics, she could do most of it and pickup the rest with the kind of pre-filming training actors get these days.
Give her a reading and see how she does, not that any of us will ever see that reading. Personally I suspect she is limited but that may be more a case of having seen her in 4400, Firefly and Sarah Connor Chronicles none of which demonstrated the range that I'd expect from someone playing Honor.
Two actresses David mentioned for Honor Harrington.
I can definitely see caludia as the older, wiser Honor, probably from flag in exile or thereabouts, and am having a think about summer as the younger honor. i suppose it all depends on whether she act the part properly
