I'd suggest either Katrina Kaif (27-yr old British-Indian actress, has appeared in 24 movies to date) or Priyanka Chopra (29, 34 films released to date, including 3 sci-fi/fantasy films, in Hindi). In addition to being experienced Asian actresses, each has a vast fan base who (mostly) aren't too aware of sci-fi. It would also help establish Honor Harrington in the Indian market - a market where even Indiana Jones didn't do well. I think that would be a nice feather in David's cap.
And as for getting the actresses to commit - there's a real shortage of good scripts with strong female leads in Indian cinema (unfortunately)... so they may well be interested.

Hello to all. I've been a David Weber and Honor Harrington fan it seems forever thanks to a younger cousin who was a fellow book reader.

Anyway on to the topic at hand. My choice for the person to play Honor is: Dakota Fanning

Why?
1. Young enough
2. Very experenced for such a young age, just became a HS grad.
3. Could grow into the part if a long running series unfolded.
4. Hair color not a problem

The other actor who comes to mind is Timothy Olyphan as Victor Cachat. I've been watching him in the series Justified, very smooth and deadly imho.

No they didn't! I have a copy of the film on DVD and I can say that there is NO CGI in it at all.

Of course that's what I meant.

"Remake" is an inaccurate term. When a film is created of another property, a second film is not a remake, it's simply a second adaptation of the property. Remake only applies when the original property was the first film itself, clearly not true in this case.

I saw the 1990 film you mention back when it first came out. It was horrid.

Hmm well with the movie development under way why no consider Summer Glau for the role of Honor. She definitely has the stoic expression pegged and can handle the martial arts with no issue. Should be interesting to see who they cast.
