Another force you need to reckon with is your own population. Even in the case of the MAlign, with filtered news, brainwashed population, and zealot military, they can't go too far, for fear of turning even a portion of those against them. In their case, their secrecy is something they must protect. For other states, there can be revolutions or other changes of government, military coups, etc.

We have had an entire thread devoted to the discussion of whether anyone could afford to take up the mantle of enforcing the Eridani Edict now that the Solarian League is no longer considered all powerful. Post League Eridani The argument was that only the League had been large enough and strong enough to weather an EE strike against one of its key worlds and continue its resolve to punish the perpetrator. Even the members of the Grand Alliance might have to back down before such a threat.

Ok, Technodyne has its headquarters and a massive amount of manufacturing and shipyards in the Yildun system. We keep being told there is no habitable planet so everything has got to be done using stations.
That being said, is there a government of Yildun as a Star System- operating from one of more of the stations and theoretically separate (hard to see how other than political fiction) from Technodyne which is a trans-stellar corporation? That would provide a governmental shell and source of registration and flagging for ships along besides the setting up of all sorts of corporations and other entities outside of just straight subsidiaries of Technodyne to provide services and support.
That would make it a something a little more fixable than a system wide company town. Diplomatic accreditation as a sovereign nation comes to mind. I have sometimes wondered who protects Yildun from outside aggression -other than having a bunch of SLN ships coming and going all the time since I don't think the SLN would be doing any permanent assignment of some level of at least a Task Force to Yildun on a "rental" bases as security. More like a Yildun SDF. One that has it's own SDs but also a wide selection of DD though BCs. Not to the level of Beowulf but still a significant force -but not enough to make it into the top 20 or even 30. I can also imagine that while it may have a fair number of former SLN in it's ranks, it would be a more robust group which has a more focused view of the defense of Yildun and it's tenants than the attitudes of Battle Fleet or even Frontier Fleet.
Technodyne has a lot of customers. It also may not be able to fabricate everything it needs for its many customers at Yildun and routinely buy stuff out-system and have it shipped in. Somebody has got to police the system.......and it would be prudent not to have that force answering directly to Technodyne. All sorts of companies might want to set up offices and outlets (and manufacturing in the system and having a defined system government with laws and enforcement would be better than just renting space from Technodyne.
Heck, the System Government can be almost as corrupt in its own way as that of Mesa, but it's a System, not a Transtellar. They have a LOT of hyperspace traffic so there needs to be the local version of Astro Control for all the military (from multiple entities beyond SLN) to commercial transports moving goods in and out along with passengers. There are people who are NOT employees of Technodyne living and working and doing business there.
Sorry, I just like all that background and detail that goes onto creating this stuff.
Appearance does count till you get into deep trouble.

I Suspect Yildun is very much a Company Town. Everyone working there works for Technodyne and Technodyne controlls all the markets.

Of Course Technodyne will have some form of SDF - These will include ships in transit / resail, New Builds in Trials and all kinds of things inbetween including older vessels with the latest systems lashed up as trial fits.

Now how reasonable the working conditions are .... ? Like many company towns local accomadation and basic food costs are probably fixed to suit the company. They are a corrupt multistellar after all.

I bet the recuritment offers look great but then living costs are artificially high so the basic workers are effectivly indentured! Now what kinds of volunteers will you have for your SDF crews?

But filthy rich as such. Providing good food and reasonable if not luxurious accommodations should be pocket change for them.

You can't do that easily with highly educated people you're going to need for your R&D department and the majority of the value-adding jobs. Maybe they have the equivalent of virtual slaves for the cleaning and mining staff, but they can't have for R&D. And if they don't want to have elder care and welfare solutions, they want the R&D staff to leave when they get old. And therefore, if no one left or everyone who did was broke and broken, no one would apply to work for Technodyne and relocate to Yildun in the first place.

So, no, I don't think that's the case.
