...I wonder if President Xi will hold an all-of-China-and-Russia vote on whether Russia should become another portion of China?
Given the comparative population sizes, the outcome would never be in doubt...

More seriously, several papers today carried the story of a man imprisoned in Russia for murder who was "recruited" into the military and realized that he was effectively being used as a mobile target/bullet sponge. he promptly managed to escape and surrendered to Ukrainian forces who realized the propaganda gold that they had just received, hence the interview that was sent out to many papers worldwide.

Putin must be getting very paranoid about his military and aides plotting to replace him right now...

If we also consider that Putin has been threating doom and gloom on anyone attacking Russia it is very clear this is a manufactured excuse to ramp up the war and sell it domestically. And now Putin have gone and initiated a limited mobilization which actually doesn't sit that well with the populace (the number of searches on how to leave Russia exploded yesterday), if he also can claim that Russian territories (aka annexed Ukrainian territories) are being attacked he probably can limit the backlash somewhat that comes from the mobilization.

This limited mobilization is expected to garner about 300,000 troops and here we come to another problem - Russia have already expended a lot of equipment and ammunition so I do wonder how they are going to equip these troops. Perhaps this is why Russia purchased stuff from North Korea.

This is just another few brush-strokes where Putin keep painting himself into a corner and it won't end well if he can't keep a lid on it domestically.

The referendum ploy must seem like a godsend to the Putz; for whom nothing seems to have gone according to plan.
Annex the fifteen percent of Ukraine you control, make them a part of Mother Russia, so any attack on them could be made to engender public support for the war.
The Ukrainians won’t attack his new possessions as he has waved his nuclear “capability” at them!
Then with three hundred thousand new recruits coming in, dressed in surplus uniforms acquired from China, and armed with North Korean weapons…repeat and rinse!
Nibble them to death!
Of course this all depends on the Ukrainians rolling over, and just taking it, and not calling the Putz!
Based on the Ukrainians action these last months, wonder what the chances of that would be?

Those 300,000 won't be instantly available. Need to be press ganged, trained (even if minimally), equipped and transported. Meanwhile Putin's nuclear threats appear to be mainly aimed at scaring NATO, not Ukraine. After all nukes aren't a lot of use against dispersed ground forces, close to your own troops.
More for using cities as hostages.

Those 300k aren't likely intended for immediate front line service. The more likely/sensible approach is to pull existing units from Eastern Russia to deploy into Ukraine and use the newly appropriated bodies to form replacement units for Eastern service where they can be brought up to speed and potentially deployed in 3-6 months after the older units are destroyed.

According to media and some war-tracking sites Russia used somewhere around 80-85% of their standing army for the build prior to the invasion. Since the war hasn’t exactly gone to Putin’s plan they’ve incurred heavy losses, thereby thinning out their active Reserves. Therefore active troops in the east they can draw on, are probably thin on the ground!
So there’s a good chance those called up, will after short (non-existent?) remedial training go straight into the meat-grinder!

So, someone decided to blow up the Nordstream 1 pipeline. People are looking for a culprit that has something to gain from the sabotage.

Defining what "gain" means in this context can lead to some interesting conclusions, because sometimes a "gain" can be the satisfaction of inflicting misery on others even though it costs you.

Just come up with a short-list of countries that have the technical means of doing underwater sabotage without being detected while gaining something from such acts.

Well, for one, both NS1 and NS2 were sabotaged. On the same day that the Baltic pipe, which connects Germany and Poland to Norway and which also runs near the place where NS1 and NS2 sprung sudden unexplained leaks, had its ceremonial opening.
