[this is from someone who's experiences with those old Airfix models was uniform failure, glue everywhere except in the right places]

I wouldn't say my model building years were a failure, but I definitely wasn't going to win any competitions either. OTOH, nowadays there's lots of places (especially YouTube) to get tips for building models, as well as new tools, glues, and such.

I haven't built a plastic model kit in almost 30 years, and now, I've got a Trumpeter 1/200 scale U.S.S Iowa (in 1944 livery) in progress, including the deluxe up-detail photoetch and wood deck add-on from Pontos. The Titanic model in the images was the first kit I've built, and that took me an evening to do. The Iowa is going to take months, if not a year or more. Besides the Titanic, I also plan to get a 1/350 ship model, probably one of the Tamiya carrier kits (Nimitz or Enterprise) to go with the 1/350 Fearless.

Because of the videos and such I mentioned before, I'm actually pretty confident that I'll get a really nice model out of the Iowa kit. I plan to work on it between stages of my next 3D printing project... whatever that may be

That’s why pricing is important. How much would you be willing to do this on a per hourly rate, then price it appropriately. If nobody is willing to pay that much that’s OK. If it turns out there is a group of secret millionaires who love the Honorverse, well that would probably be OK too.

Assuming it was legit for you to sell them.

MaxxQ, love the Fearless, great work! If you are going Tamiya, I think you have to get the CVN-65 Enterprise. I think the only decent Nimitz is the Trumpeter, but it is a VERY nice kit.

I have an unbuilt Enterprise, and some of the air wing if you are going that route. Let me know!

Thanks for the offer. I'll keep it in mind once I get to that point. Gonna be awhile though. Weather is too cold for outdoor spraying. Hopefully, in the next few months or so, I'll be able to build a workshop in the garage (or get a large shed) that I can heat and cool, and have space for airbrushing, and put my printers out there to give me some room in my bedroom, especially since I plan to get two more printers - an Ender 5 Plus (I need the much larger build volume), and probably a Phrozen Sonic 4K resin printer.

I swore I'd never go with resin because the post-processing is a PITA, but I've seen some really good examples of the level of detail on resin printers, and the newer ones (like the Sonic 4K) have 4K resolution - 772 pixels per inch - making for even finer detail. That sold me, as well as the fact that resin printers don't take as long for some prints. This is what I need for making all the small details for the various scales I'm doing.

New images.

Still not completely done. Gotta put stuff in the boat bays. But for the most part, it's finished.

Excellent!!

when I saw the first picture, for some reason I thought the model was sitting on a wooden floor and was about 6foot wide!!

I then spotted the banana, and thought 'wow - that is one giant banana'. DOH.

Took me a few seconds to realise that it was actually sitting on a table, and my sense of scale was all wrong

Yeah... the banana is for scale. There's a meme in the 3D modeling world that includes one. Usually, it's just a 3D modeled banana, rendered with the rest of the image. I figured I'd add a physical banana to go with the physical model. FWIW, the model is just under 5 feet (58.5 inches, or 1.5 meters) long.
