What? Is David thinking of taking over the writing of this thing himself? Are there really other people who use 'MWWathimatics'?

I think Piers Anthony gets the trophy on this one - he recently announced book 40 in the Xanth Trilogy.

Undoubtedly.

The original trilogy was planned to have the titles
A Call to Duty/Arms/Battle; so the short story has the same name as the 2nd book, and was I guess sort of a trial balloon for the project.

How much of the short story will be rewritten when it gets expanded to a novel is of course the question, but unless they change the name I would expect the elements to reappear in the novel in a form that is not inconsistent with the short story.

Could be Copy-Paste, "expanded and elaborated Xerox form", or "as seen by a different viewpoint character". Most likely a mix of these with more background chapters on Axelrod, Manty & RMN politics, maybe a chapter or two on some recent Havenites, etc.

May be the Manticore Ascendance series will link into that short story.

Has anybody heard a title or release date for the next book in the series yet?

IIRC, it was mentioned in the Baen Free Radio Hour podcast (the Thanksgiving 2 hour special with David Weber and BuNine).

There has been no announcement as to when or how far down the schedule it is. It's unclear what the topic, time period or focus is.

Unless Duckk want to say something?
