I just got done re-reading the Honor-series and I'm wondering if RFC watched a British news satire called The Day Today and named his intrepid reporter after one Peter O'Hanrahahanrahan, a definite beta to the O'Hanrahan genotype?

You don’t have to reach that far. Walter Duranty is the obvious archetype of a reporter who is secretly working for a murderous organization while pretending to report on them honestly. He’s the guy who every NY Times reporter wants to be, winning a Pulitzer prize for best coverup of a mass murdering Communist dictator.

Hello sansos
Welcome to the forum! A beta for an alpha? An intriguing question! But I don't think so. David Weber does not seem to make the references and archetypes he uses obvious. As kzt said, he might have based on a different person or fictitious character, but come up with the name through a different process. I suspect he has a list of names ready to be used and he just picks one of them at random, if he doesn't need specific traits. Though he probably does need traits more often than not. All Andermani names are of a very specific construction and most Havenite ones are too. And of course, planets with ethnic populations in the Verge require the same (Polish, Czech or Scottish-sounding names, to name a few). So he probably has several lists. And then there's Rob S. Pierre and Saint-Just... |

or the Renaissance Factor's 12 director's... er... planetary leaders. ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |

Ah, but not all of them. I do wonder if I missed a reference, though:
Roman Polanski, Hitchcock, Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, (George) Lucas, (Oliver) Stone are easy. But Monticelli was a painter, not a director. Nikomedes Kakadelis doesn't ring a bell and "Clinton" only reminds me of US political figures. Am I missing anyone? |

Isn't Albrecht the twelfth member? Or is he ex officio? |

I suppose you meant as the Darius system executive, which he was. But Darius isn't an official member, so he wouldn't show up as in the official RF executive list. He's the real power behind the scenes, something most conspiracy theories say exist, but in this case is true. Mesa isn't a member either. |

No, you didn't miss anyone. Boldface is my emphasis. -------------------------------------------------------------

John Ford, director of Westerns, and The Quiet Man. Huskainen is unknown to Wiki. Hurskainen has several entries. |

Well, those are existing surnames so there are relatively important people to have born them. Like Janacek / Janáček. I was just wondering if one of those could be the one RFC was thinking of. "Ford" reminds me of Francis Ford Coppola. |
