I have read or listened to this series at least ten times. Every single time I do either or, I realize how bad an author Weber actually is. I'm running through the series again, an I'm at "In enemy hands". Everything before chapter twenty five could be summed up in three or four chapters. Webber sucks donkey d!ck after book two or three of any series he writes. My favorite series is the "Empire of Man". You can literally see Webber's d!ck prints on the series around book three.

Yes, after tasting the first bite of a doughnut, I think, damn, Good Stuff, but then after finishing it I am like, barf... Guess I should eat the other 11 doughnuts too and then whine as I have dick sugar doughnut breath and my stomach is queasy, and my intestines are roiling from eating so many doughnuts constantly.

I dare you to read any series 10 times and not be utterly bored... Yes, I have read the HH series 10 times, and been utterly bored with them. STOP READING them. Give it 3 years haitus.

PS: Yes, I have whined about his latest bloated works, but UH made up for it.

PPS: Maybe you need to do something productive with your life other than rereading books... I know this helped me out. I got into foster care even though I am an engineer. Rewarding, painful, aggravating all at the same time, but ultimately satisfying and boosts your self worth image of yourself. Oh yea, most of them come from druggy missing family so be forwarned. If you are afraid of drugged out parent meetings of some despicable human beings actions doing selfish stupid things, do not go into said field. Of course it is REALLY REALLY REALLY rewarding when you see parents change their lives from being despicable actions to productive members of not only society, but become PARENTS once again.

I wish it was just the fact that I have read this series so many times. But to be honest, the first time I read about the tree cats using sign language. I realized that Webber was more interested in filling a page the writing a novel. It took till book four or the "empire of man" series. The "Hey, you got to save my life. I still remember that really clear view of your butt. I thought I liked you before, but all I could think about all the time was what that butt looked like."
That "get a room" line just screemed page filler. I swear Weber wakes up every morning saying "I need to fill a chapter". The "safehold" series is the pinnacle of vomiting words onto a page. It's literally the longest trilogy I have ever read.

So you do not like David Weber's writing style, so why are you bothering to keep reading or even re-reading them, it make absolutely no sense.

Most of your posts in this forum are derogatory, so I fail to see why you continue to "poison" yourself by coming back, because I am sure that you that your views are in the very minority.

Arthur Gaston created a product that if used correctly would make plants flourish. But if was used incorrectly, it was a great defoliant. After Gaston found out what the DoD was doing with it. He became the loudest voice against the use of Agent Orange.
Weber on the other hand created a excellent universe. Then he weaponized it and profiteered from the words vomited onto paper.
But with the current generations lacking any sort of common sense, it is do easy to do.

You're welcome to your opinion. I agree that sometimes it does seem that David is trying to fill pages. Describing the treecat signing was over the top for me and it's the (only) section of the books that I skipped. Yes, 'cats are articulate, but do I need to read the hand motions which mean nothing to me? The repetition on Shadow of Freedom and Shadow of Victory was hard to get through too. And sometimes, the 8 pages of woolgathering get tiresome, though I've always found them at least sufficiently informative.

The passages where he describes the ships' motions in detail are very interesting to me, many of which are those 8-page info dumps. So I guess trying to please everyone is quite difficult. For me the pluses far outweigh the minuses, which is why I am here. Sufficiently so that I began reading other books by David and I am quite eagerly awaiting both The Valkyrie Protocol (snippets available here in the forum) and Into the Light.

I have not read the series more than once. Yet. I will likely take the time to reread and enjoy when before the next mainline book comes out. Until then, I have a lot of other sci-fi authors to read, with varying different styles. Some are very good (I'm reading Glorious by Niven and Benford, though you may find long-winded too), some others are the "miss" in "hit and miss." If you want action-packed military Sci-Fi, I can make a few recommendations of independent authors on Amazon.

I don't love all sci-fi. Although I like quite a bit of it. But I do like what I like, and I have that right. So do you. But you shouldn't be disrespectful about it. Just toss the author and the book out the door, or just the author and donate the book. What may not float your boat may give wings to another reader. Like me. I like strong female characters. Crave them. Perhaps it is the ultimate underdog factor. But whatever it is, that is what floats my boat. In that respect, Honor is the Cat's meow. Just ask Nimitz.

A book also has to have some sort of metaphysical effect on me. If a book doesn't make me shed tears at certain passages, it's a failure. All of the Honorverse books have that effect on me. I will literally not read another one in public, ever again! The entire whole of OBS, tears. But the love Weber weaved into OBS—Honor, Fearless and her crew—rocked my boots. And some readers have the nerve and audacity to say Weber doesn't do romance well. I'll give them all a piece of my effin mind, soon as I can stop the tears! The way Emily treated Honor, tears. The way Alice Truman drove the wheels off her ship for Honor, tears. The way her friends went after Summervale at that Chalet, tears. Honor's relationship with Howard Clinkscales, Reverend Sullivan, and all of Grayson. Tears. The history behind Shannon's OOPs, the passage with Megan Petersen in UH, tears. On and on and on.

BUT!

When Honor came through the junction as the cavalry in At All Costs, tears. Many many tears. Heck, I recreated that scene in a parody of Casey At The Bat and one poster admitted to tears when the cavalry comes. Weber is a brilliant writer in my book. The space battles are totally awesome.

The fact that you feel that way about him but yet he's my numero uno Space Opera writer goes to show "Different Strokes for Different Folks." That's all, nothing more nothing less. Whatever your Honor is, find her. And be thankful you don't hate ALL Sci-Fi like my sister does.

At any rate, you are entitled to your opinion. But, at least give the author the respect he's due.

However, I am human so I have gripes too. David has a tendency to kill off the characters you love. Internally, I realize it has to be that way to prevent war porn, so they say. But there is one thing about the Honorverse that is downright unforgivable. Weber tends to mate the wrong characters with each other. Abigail Hearns should be mine, dammit!

So Weber, if you kill off another character can you please make it Indiana Graham!!! Fire the missiles already! And don't you dare use those damn blind Cataracts.

BTW, what you may refer to as filler, lots of people like. My niece knows sign language. She learned it so she can communicate with her closest friend. She loves the passages about the Cats signing. My friends in Romania are mostly all doctors or surgeons, they love the conversations about prolong, regeneration and cloning. They love the tech behind what the MA does.

But many of those women think the battle scenes are filler. Do you honestly think any author can please everyone?
