If a Democratic citadel like HK can do it, why not the good Old US of A? :?

Perhaps you meant democratic citadel rather than Democratic. I am not aware that Democrats are involved in the politics of Hong Kong.... :D

A question for my learned American friends.
Now that three tell all books have been allowed, (two released, one to come before the election) and there has been a judgement that a President cannot pardon himself, should Trump?

Quickly find a popular (Hollywood?) Republican person with whom he can do a deal. Have them become the Republican candidate, and (hopefully for him) win, then pardon him for his many crimes?

As things stand, it appears likely that he will lose the election, then lose his Presidential immunity, then lose his freedom?
Or is he hoping that Putin has a luxury dacha already reserved?

Not sure how true it is, but supposedly two states won't extradite to New York. One of them being Florida.

Two things here. This question has been frequently discussed. Trump can't pardon himself. But he could resign after the election and receive a pardon from Pence, at least theoretically. That is what happened when Ford took over from Nixon.

Secondly, a presidential pardon covers only Federal crimes. A presidential pardon can't be given for crimes against the laws of the State of New York. I suspect that is where accountability for Trump will finally come from, probably tax and financial fraud.

Interesting that many senior military people are now coming out with Trump anecdotes. "People who lose their lives in military operations are losers". "Why would people go into combat when there is nothing in it for them"? "How many bone spur certificates now"?

Thing is.

It's not just the stories, but the people telling the stories.

Not just these stories, all of them.

Speaking as a citizen, this is awful. But on the other hand, politically as a Democrat, Trump is the gift that that keeps on giving. Watched Biden this morning. He was about as angry as I have ever seen him. He had his temper leashed, but just barely.

It’s encouraging that people are finally speaking out against the B.O.M’s malicious disrespect and derogatory comments of people in the Armed Services, some who paid the ultimate price for said service; their very lives.
Unfortunately many are made anonymously, and can therefore be written off as hearsay. He (the B.O.M.) is making full use of this, and is now full of insincere praise for the very people he has disrespected.
Yet there is one case that is fully documented, and this from his own mouth, and from which he can’t run, and that is when he slammed Senator McCain, for his time as a P.OW.
In this one statement he showed his true mind set, and it lends weighty credence to all later reputed statements.

Seeing and listening to the B.O.M.’s pathetic and ludicrous attempt to smear the reputation of his own former Chief of Staff, former four stars Marine Major General William Walker, brought a sense of déjà vu to the surface.
Back to a time when another American political demagogue; Senator Joseph McCarthy; also on live television, was in the process of demolishing yet another victims character, thereby unknowingly and unwittingly sealing his own political career.
The sealing was carried out by a canny little lawyer Joseph Welch, and the mode was seven little; yet powerful words from Welch:”…have you no sense of decency sir…”!
Seven little words that finally punctured the cloak of invincibility that had surrounded McCarthy for years.
Maybe the B.O.M’s tirade against General Walker will have somewhat the same effect!

Rather irrelevant. At (what is it...?) noon?? on January 20, the person who is legally elected as the President will be sworn in as the President of the US. That is an event that nobody can stop. Military? Nope. If a former President attempts to give an order to the Military after noon on the 20th, the Military will just not obey it. Nor will the Secret Service. Nor will ANY part of the Executive branch. I don't understand why Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden and their minions keep making such a big deal about this - they KNOW the rules. The unbreakable rules. Actually, I DO understand why. They're lying. They're pandering lies out of whole cloth to an ignorant electorate.
