For the next several years, there is no need for a GA SD to venture far from the home planets; since cruisers are faster, cheaper and can handle any SLN ship that they meet.

As White Haven said, "just wait until we bring out our battlecruisers!"

Mike is already away from the Home planet.

The premise of the thread denotes Honor traipsing about the galaxy putting out fires because the entire Galaxy trusts her. I'd like to see her in an SD, for maximum defense, lest she can't run.

Plus, there are invisible Sharks and Whales in the water. A ship of the Wall may be more survivable.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Interesting premise, but unlikely; since she intends to be a mother first for a few years. The Queen is certain that Honor will be back if the need is enough, but firefighting does not qualify.

True that everyone in the GA trusts her, but is that really true in the Core Worlds of the League? It is unlikely that the GA will be traipsing through the League anyway; but that is still is a big part of Human space in the Galaxy. So saying the "entire Galaxy" is a bit overblown.

But suppose for argument's sake you are right; then the idea that she needs an SD to protect her, means that she is too important to be doing what you suggest. reductio ad absurdum

I understand what you are trying to do. We are going through dark and troubling times. It is depressing that there will be no more Honor mainline books and you are going through withdrawal, as we all are to some extent. But trying to create a story line to tempt her back is as futile as those Pacific Islanders that tried to build airstrips to lure back the cargo planes. This will just delay the healing. We need to try to be strong and move forward. There still might be short stories of Honor in a independent command and she will probably be in the next book. But even if she does not make another appearance, we can survive. From time to time we can reread the many pages. Then we can tell the newbies about the hardship of the old days when we might have to wait a year or more before we could read more.

Honor is too senior to be putting out fires. If she's going anywhere, she is going to be aboard an SD, but at the head of a fleet of 399 other SDs.

You understand what I'm trying to do? Apparently you do not. You SHOULD, since I was being very transparent about it in the opening post. But, you don't. I admit your scenario IS amusing though. However, you've probably read the series many times over whereas I have not. Each book still has plenty of accel in it for me. I've only read UH once.

Again, I'm interested in how a ship of the wall may change its tactics IF IT HAD to operate as a singleton. Who better to demonstrate those tactics than Honor, and what better time to do so than against a slower opponent while still enjoying the advantage in missile range. At one point my girl was always being put in a tin can, and the author had the nerve to tell me she wasn't the M V P until much later in the series. Hrrrmph!

I'd simply like to see Honor duke it out, alone, in a ship of the wall. She's a big girl and can choose to move about the galaxy as she pleases. There's no reason her personal yacht can't be an SD. And her exploits as a civilian, master of her own ship, does not put her in the navy. However, fighting for her own life, or going to the aid of some damsel in distress, is okay by me. YMMV.

That is not a study in tactics, it is a study of massacre. You need to get closer to equality to begin to see tactics.

Even the Queen only has a BC. Acting as a civilian, she can only respond in self defense or in immediate defense of others, so mostly this would be a waste of her talent and money. Simply not going to happen, except in fanfic.

Says he who doesn't seem to quite have a handle on tactics. Honor gets "massacred" going against SLN units? Is it because of the "Mighty Gorilla" syndrome? The bigger odds against her or what? Quarantine is really getting to you, huh? Fearless should have been massacred in OBS. Honor has a nasty habit of thinking outside the box she's in at the time. Of course, she's an Alpha too. LOL

Fighting for her life, or someone else's life is a waste of her talents? Yep, you've gone Shark-raving, quarantine induced, malignantly mad.

Telling me something isn't going to happen in storyline is meaningless as well, unless you have a direct line into the author's head. I've been told that before too, several times, only to see it happen.

1. I argued it was ironic that a missile collier is loaded to the gills with missiles but can't launch any of them.

"It's job is to follow the fleet around, not engage the enemy."

"But it's crazy that it is designed to simply carry and not fire missiles. What a waste for it to die chock-full of missiles. It should be able to say 'I'm going to take quite a few of ya wit me.' "

"It's not going to happen."

Then...David dropped the Taylor-class FSVs upon us.

2. "The SL should have made an attempt at the MWJ in the early days of it's discovery."

"It isn't going to happen."

Well, it did by proxy, at least.

3. "The SL will simply start kewing planets."

"THE SL isn't a bunch of lunatics. Not. Going. To. Happen."

We all know how that went down.

4. "Honor and White Haven should hook up." Pitchforks! That was during roseandheather and my shipping era.

"They're never going to hook up. You've gone shipping crazy."

Admittedly, I never saw them hooking up, permanently.

So please, unless you are the author. Save it. Shit happens.

Yeah, and you have been wrong hundreds of times, so do not get off on telling us to “save it”. A stopped clock is still right twice a day, but it’s still wrong the rest of the time.

So was Hemphill. Hundreds out of thousands of attempts just means we don't get discouraged by naysayers.

No wonder Hemphill was a loner. The tunnel vision of others found inside a box had to be annoying as hell for her.

Wrong a few times isn't hundreds.

A fear of failure also includes a fear of success.
