Eloise does not cheat.

Bullshit! She cheated the Queen and her entire government out of the truth about the forged correspondence, and worse -- because of it -- cheated many sailors out of their lives.

I suppose since it was part of the horse trading, it should be called "horseshit."

Sorry for the excrement. Cleanup on Aisle 1, due to a stink propagated by Eloise.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Get yours facts straight.

She did not cheat; her Foreign Minister did and she would have ripped him a new one, if she had known.

She knew! In perfectly good time to have saved many lives, since she was downwind of the stink. Since this shit rolled uphill, she failed to wipe her butt of the mess she inherited. And since she's at the very top of the government. Guess what?

Placing the absolute blame on anyone else is a grave copout, after she smelled the stink, and then ignored it by failing to properly wipe her a— err hands of it. Instead, she cheated a lot of people, places, and things, AFTER the stink got on HER hands.

She did not know until the fighting had already restarted.

Enough from me, let's see what Roseandheather has to say about your words.

No fair. I don't wanna be put in the doghouse again.

Whatsamatter youse, can't fight your own battles, so you call in the big guns. LOL

You do know Rose is a Havenite by choice? By choice, mind you! Although love will continue to lead many astray. Therefore she's quite possibly partial to the stink. Eloise knew in time to save more than many lives.

A stitch in time saves lives. Just one stitch by Eloise could have saved more than merely many. Hell, two butchers in two different star systems could have gone on vacation for a lack of business, had Eloise not propogated the deceit.

You are just digging yourself deeper. You don't accept what I say, so let's say if someone else can convince you.

It is not possible, after breaking a truce, to say "wait, let's have a truce again". Eloise was not positive that Arnold Giancola had rigged the correspondence until it was much too late. She intended to tell the Queen the truth as she knew it, when they met at Torch; but the Malign quashed that chance.

Once again, you make bullshit statements without having even surface level comprehension of what actually happens in the text.

Pritchart learns of Kevin Usher's suspicions just before the first of the Cutworm attacks go in. Even then, all they have is a mostly credible theory backed up by very little evidence - all of which was obtained by Kevin's very illegal, unofficial investigation.

In chapter 21 of AAC, we see that the official investigation has been underway for a month by the time Giancola is killed, at which point it becomes a cold case. The only two suspects they know were involved are dead, and they have no further leads or evidence.

So, again, all they have are their own suspicions and no hard evidence. Pritchart does not think Kevin is wrong, but she has both the moral duty and the duty of her office to make sure he is right. For the former, she is self honest to admit to herself that her own personal bias is coloring her thoughts and it is entirely possible that Giancola is actually innocent barring evidence to the contrary. For the latter, she cannot - simply, unequivocally cannot - go around pinning blame on the person who was her political rival without that damning evidence. It would destroy the Republic she, Theisman, and others have worked so hard to rebuild. The lack of conclusive proof would just resurrect the spectre of the show trials the People's Republic ran, especially since Giancola died under circumstances that would appear suspicious to an outsider (even though we the reader know it was actually a fluke).

What does Pritchart do? She tells Kevin to keep digging in the hope of finding something she can take public. Nothing pans out. Fortunately, she gets an opening when events force Manticore's hand, when Hexapuma's invasion of Monica bring up the possibility of a confrontation with the League. This is the chance Pritchart can use to open negotiations. She can prove her sincerity in wanting to give peace a chance by paroling a member of the royal family, who just so happens to also be one of their best admirals. The tentative olive branch looks like it is succeeding, until Mesa steps in. They trick Elizabeth into resuming hostilities, and Pritchart has no way of getting the door open again.

So go ahead, tell us how and when Pritchart is supposed to fix this? Estimating by the timeline on the infodump, there is roughly 5-ish months between when Pritchart first learns of Kevin's suspicions to when she sends Mike Henke back. Given the distances and communications loops involved, that sounds pretty damn prompt to me.

The only addition I have to make to what Potato has so eloquently explained here is:

DOGHOUSE. NOW.

Shame on you. Stay there and think about what you've done.

Do I really havta? But the whole world's in the doghouse now. LOL

See what you did tlb, you didn't have to call out the Peep Princess. Well alright, but I don't have to like it. If it makes any difference, I think Eloise is a great gal.

Before I go, why exactly does a warship have to have the hammerhead design? Someone says it's a more efficient design upstream, but why is that again? I would imagine it's easier to design a compensator, sidewalls and the like, to operate on a simple shape, overall?

I did not call her out. Unlike you, I expected that she looks in on occasion.

The hammerheads are to provide area for the chase tubes and everything else a military ship needs to expose to space. Cargo ships do not have that need, nor that shape.
