Because you are so laughably obvious. And I'm afraid your hopes are just a statistical anomaly. The number of new cases could not just drop from 23196 yesterday to 3201 today.

I very unequivocally stated that the number of reported new cases for the US is almost certainly going to increase as more states report their cases. The number has already been revised up since you posted. I expect it to continue rising.

I didn't hear TFLY'S comment as an insult, just a case of mistaken gender identity...this time.

But Dilandu, your comment was obviously intended as an insult...and not respectful of girls, either. I know you were reacting and the fly sometimes is insulting deliberately.

I would like to remind us that such discourse does nothing to advance a conversation. I don't do insults and work as hard as possible to be as hard as possible to insult. My dad always told me that if I keep my feet under the table, I won't get my toes stepped on.

However I am not above tweaking you a bit in good humor if I get the chance...

Unfortunately, I did not reach that level of self-control yet. :(

Well hell. I finally went back to fully read Dilandu's recent posts. He unambiguously indicated his gender as male, now that I know I will not honor him by referring to him as female.

And with such problems with memory and perception as yours you are still claiming that American medicine is anything worthwhile?

(The following post should be read as dripping with sarcasm)

It seems we owe Imaginos an apology after all. Data from the german state Northrhine-Westphalia shows no excess mortality (excess mortality being the difference between the actual number of recorded deaths in a given timespan vs the expected number of deaths based on the historical record) during Q1 2020.
So, it turns out, COVID-19 really is about as dangerous as the common flu!

Of course, as Imaginos will undoubtedly insist, this means that the various measures we've taken to limit the spread of COVID and to prepare our health care systems for its arrival during February were completely unnecessary.

To quote ... uhhh ... me from a month ago:

Yes. And it will be me.

But we both know you won't believe that to be the case; if everything works out right, the measures taken now will blunt the impact of the disease so much that, in total numbers, its impact won't be that heavy.

Just like back in 1998 when people woke up to the Y2k problem, spent thousands of hours and billions of dollars on fixing things, and everyone in 2000 wondered what all the fuss was about since "obviously" nothing happened.

Someone go get that phone, cos I fucking called it.

Some times, I cannot tell if my fellow David Weber fans are being very cleaver or dumber than dirt.

I have a 30 year career that included work as a food safety manager and auditor...
I have extensive study in entomology and microbiology (specifically food borne pathogens)so I will categorically say, yes virus and bacterium will experience exponential growth.

The ideas of social distancing and self quarantine will not guarantee that you will not contract this virus, only that the hospital might not be over taxed when your number is called.

Oh please! There is no "exponential" growth! Stop being an old lady, who have no better things to do than spread apocalyptic rumors!

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-cases/

In fact, the number of infected decreased. It could, of course, still go up - if, for example, pandemic hit India or some other Asian country with high population density and inept government - but China obviously took it under control. The number of peoples cured is 4,4 times greater than the number of dead, and the absolute majority of cases are mild one.

TFLYTSNBN wrote: It is alarming that North Korea officially reports zero cases.

What exactly so alarming here? They are quite isolationist country with strict border control and very limited traffic. They may just put everyone who are entering the country into quarantine (the number is actually not enormous), and thus prevent the possibility of spread from the very beginning.

On a side issue, since I see you list Russia as your location, you may be the only person I can ask this: Having grown up under the shadow of the hydrogen bomb and in the cold war... Do you and your neighbors think the cold war is over as our President does or are you laughing up your sleeve at us?

Personally, I think the ideological lines became blurred after the USSR broke up and the oligarch and organized crime established the new status quo with their own so called capitalism though I think it is not even the version of capitalism our GoP are touting as the cure all.

My take is that Putin is laughing his ass off at the gullibility and greed he found to work with ... yes, I believe that your military intelligence helped the Trump campaign with information they pulled from the democratic national committee computer ...
much as Ronald Regan and the GoP laughed at Gorbachev and his cabinet for believing the Star Wars ploy...

And I imagine you are laughing at my naivety for even asking you to answer this question.

I have to admit to a degree of naivety because at the base, I believe that Stephen Hawking was 100% right "There is no Planet B"

We are in this together to the end or perhaps till we get the self serving corporations out of the way and open the road to the stars.

Actually, American medicine is probably about the best in the world. Where we have the problem is with accessibility for those on the lower part of the income scale.
