Getting back to the original thread.....

(1) Likely Manticore, Haven and Grayson will place all but 100-200 SD(p)'s each into reserve, rotating them out every 5-10 t-years to keep up on developed tech

(2) All pre-Nike & Pre-Aggemenon BC's will go as "foreign aid" to friendly independent systems as fleet flag ships

(3) All Starknight, pre-Sag-C's, captured/serviceable x-SLN Gladiators, pre-Mars CA's to friendly independent systems as utility CA's for local fleets/piracy suppression

(4) All pre-Avalon CL's & pre-Roland DD's to friendly independent systems as utility escorts for convoy/merchant escort.

Remember, there are still opportunists and pirates out there. There are x-SLN and x-PRH/State Sec operators gone rogue (although fewer than there used to be  )

A good, capable local defense force in the newly independent systems/sectors will go a LONG way towards reducing "warlord-ism", and with the "second career" RMN/GSN/RHN navy retirees as trainers/advisors, will help those same newly independent systems/sectors "grow up"

-- Stewart

Most of what happens depends heavily on what happens in the Sollie navy. If a lot of them go pirate, there will be real problems.

If they don't, they could do a lot of patrolling and cut down on problems.

There is at least one wormhole junction that is not yet fully open... one end is in Torch space the other ???
somewhere under the MA control... Have to go back and read that to get the twist out of my memory...

Well, it's not open open. But you do agree the GA most likely has a skeleton key?

What book bears textev?

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Harvest Joy was destroyed after transit in chapter 27 of Torch of Freedom.

Do not remember which book, but believe the BC's that took out Harvest Joy were from Mannerheim -- one of the Rennaisance Factor systems.

Yes, see the highlighted title above.

Also, the GA does not have a skeleton key nor any idea that hostile forces were involved.

Right, the Harvest Joy was able to make the transition with no issues, but no on in the GA knows that. To them the Harvest Joy is missing, presumed lost. Any further exploration, besides with expendable, exploration vessels is deemed pointless, and will probably only happen after the experts do many, many more careful observations to understand what happened to the Harvest Joy ("All indications from this side are that the Harvest Joy made a sucessful transition" - "Well, we know something bad happened - look again.")

We also don't know if the BC squadron was replaced by fixed defenses, or if it would return if indications were that the GA would try a translation again.

But for now, the GA knows nothing....

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

GOOD QUESTION... I was in the process of re-reading the entire series but only made it as far as Honor Among Enemies when Uncompromising came out... Now I am re-reading Uncompromising...

The same ship that explored the wormhole to Talbot went in to the end at Torch and was ambushed...

Who has a memory better than mine? LOTS OF PEOPLE :o

One of the challanges to the SLN ending up doing piracy suppression is that they are going to be limited to SL space. Office of Frontier Security is now out of business- that is going to make for a very messy time since I'm not sure what is going to happen to all those Protectorate Systems that OFS was running, let alone all the nominally independent Systems outside the Core for which OFS was the military force protecting them even if they were not formally under OFS control.
I don't recall if the Protectorates will still fall under the SL unless they choose to formaly leave....too many questions here.
That's a lot of systems who are now going to have to come up with their own security. It falls out into to primary groups.
First are those which were formal Protectorates and -unless something changes- are getting the cord cut as OFS gets it's hooks ripped out of the system's management. They will need something for defence and if they are no longer part of SL they have limited choices. One is the GA providing coverage. Another is aquire some warships and start a SDF though that is going to take a while to develope into competent forces. Then there is the option provided by the Rennaisance Factor bringing to gather a coalition of systems for self protection and providing warships from Mannerheim and others of the port-RF that have SDF's to carry the system protection & local commercie protection.
Then there are are all those Independent Systems who may or may not have been depending on OFS/FF to maintain political stability thorough threat of force in support of the Government. We saw the things Firebrand was helping to stir up, there are going to be a lot more places where things could flash over to Civil War as people see that FF has been taken off the table as a hammer for the system's rulers.

Another fun question- what happens to a SLN ship in hyper going between remaining SL systems but are "near" sysems which have either left or been freed (from OFS etc) of SL interference? Do they get destroyed out-of-hand or do they have to be in normal space to have Hornor's mandate kick in? Interesting times :)
Since we don't know what is going to

Just a guess but, I expect Honor and Winston to have a meeting of the minds early in the continuation... The dragon in the dining-room is still the MA and their front Renaissance alliance which still have to be dealt with... Winston has eye witness testimony and just had his head handed to him but... he also had the moral courage to do the right thing where the Mandarins were concerned. I think he would make a trip to Manticore in a courier ship if that is what it took to get a meeting.
