Imaginos, the Australian Tresury department tries to keep the AUD at around 70 to 75 US cents because of the resource exports.

Have done so since the AUD was floated back in the mid 1980's.

Indeed, during the GFC it was OVER the US$1.00 mark.

Imaginos, I'll make things a bit easier for you. I said, in an earlier post:
To be a communist in the 21st century means something different than being a communist in the 20th. We all saw the hideous failures of communism in Russia, China and the GDR; we all saw how easy it is to derail the communist train into oligarchies and tyrannies. If we refused to learn from these mistakes, we would be fools.


The tenets of social democracy, of true social market economy, are the most realistically achievable ways to get there, and so that's what I am supporting in elections.

But, if I had even a sliver of hope that true communism, a true egalitarian, classless society was possible in this lifetime? I would be jumping on board real quick.


You are arguing against a strawman version of me. If you really want to have a discussion (and I doubt that, I think you're more interested in scoring imaginary points against one of them eeevuuul socialists), start by addressing the arguments I am making.

Out of all the times communism has been imposed on people around the world, not once has it been as successful as capitalism is right now. That's a low bar indeed, but one that communism has never even approached. Claiming 'But THIS time we'll get it right!' is not a convincing argument.

Lesson one of the disasters of communism in the 20th century: If communism has to be imposed, it's not going to work. It needs to be a popular movement, not one imposed on the populace by a supposedly enlightened vanguard.

(Also, I love how you're still ignoring everything I say to go on rants against what you imagine I am.)

Actually Imaginas, you're wrong.

But it's because of scale.

Communism seems to work very well on the small scale.
Where it tends to fail is on the larger scale where the potential for corruption starts to climb exponentially.

Improving something that works strikes me as a much more promising approach than trying to fix something that has never worked.

No modern nation is fully capitalist, not even the US - they all have a mix of capitalist and socialist policies in various degrees

I didn't say half of that. Many young couples set out to make their way in life, have kids, buy a basic house, start at the bottom and plan to work up over time. However it is entirely possible (and common) for intelligent hard working people to get into a situation whereby they just can't quit no matter how bad their employer is for a matter of years.
You are either young, of limited life experience, or come from a wealthy background to not understand that.
In my case, now retired, I worked for some shocking employers in my early years and had no chance of improving my lot for some time. Sure I eventually ended up in a series of senior dream jobs that were interesting, paid well, and massaged my ego. I also knew good hard working people who never got those breaks. I also knew good hard working people who didn't have the capacity to study and advance, who stayed at the bottom all their working lives. I still respect them for their endurance and decency. Dead end jobs but not dead end people.
