Literally Obstruction of Justice by Trump.

And congress is cashing another check from their corporate sponsors.

A history course maybe my senior year in HS or second year in college... not sure which now the former was 1969-70 the latter in 1972-73.
But anyway, we saw that the major civilization in history had an average of 200 years.
Since then I wondered what would replace our republic and now see a plutocracy which controls congress, the courts and the administration and one step away from using brutality to silence opposition.

I don't gamble but I will bet next weeks beer money that SMR is not really in the upper income bracket ($250,000+ / year) and even if I am wrong, I am still puzzled by how many 'true believers' Trump has.

Ah well, I am getting old, I won't have more than 15-25 years to live through the decline of the American Dream.

Probably repeating myself. Happens as you get older, but I just can't get my head around the political differences between the US and most developed countries.
For many, our nearest equivalent to the US President is our Prime Ministers, and any of our PMs would have been instant toast if they -
Appointed one of their children to a senior paid adviser role.
Had shown such lack of gravitas and dignity.
Had outright lied, on so many easily verified matters.
Was involved in obvious financial conflicts of interest.
Disregarded prudent governance by exploding the deficit.
Were instrumental in separating refugees from their children.
Obstructed justice, and saw nothing wrong in that.
Appointed a partisan judge (I know that is the done thing, weird)
Or too many more things to type out.

It just beggars belief that your system lets him get away with any one of these things, as any one of them would sink our PMs.

With this GOP majority in both houses of congress, any democrat would have been instant toast if they did half of what Trump tweets link him to and now the blatant obstruction of justice yet the GOP majority seems happy to let his nominee for Supreme Court pass the rubber stamp process and Congress has abdicated its' responsibility as art of the checks and balances.

They are doing exactly what their corporate sponsors pay them to do and disregard the rest of us.

If I did not have a wife and two adult children near by I would be so 'out of here'

Just this morning our PM came within seven votes of losing his position. If he had lost he'd have been the sixth in about eleven years. Our system possibly makes it too easy to get rid of dud leaders, while the US is obviously too difficult.
Incidentally his crime is to want to set an emissions target on electricity to meet our Paris accord obligations, and his hard right (Tea party equiv) backbench rump mounted a challenge.
To further confuse the Americans here our current controlling party are the "Liberals" who are our equivalent to the Republicans in the US or the Tories in the UK. Even their name is a lie.

Rumer is another leadership challange by Thursday, or possibly a snap early election to avoid it.

Because it's a "news-style" entertainment run by knaves and catering to blithering idiots and it would upset their viewers fantasy world.

That makes it much cleared. Thank you. ;)
It does also explain why he can still get a full room of like minded supporters who will "drink the kool-aid" and follow blindly into the point of no return.

Neil Young had the same issue way back in 2015 and at that point Trump stopped...

We have all met people that people who think the rules don't apply to them...
I think his remarks that they can't impeach him because he is doing a good job is a bit like saying that Jeffrey Dahmer recycled everything and bought Girl Scout Cookies so we have to overlook all the evil he did.

We are talking about a man under investigation for collusion with a hostile foreign government to win (the election) and who has done more to disrupt things to fit his ideal than any president on record.

Anyway, if congress were doing its' job instead of trying to secure their own power, he would have been impeached long ago.
Our co-contributor smr and the GOP majority in congress would have had him against the wall offering him a blindfold and a last cigarette if he were a Democrat before the end of his first year.
