I was just watching her on TV and suddenly thought

Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones from Dr Who) as Queen Elizabeth

This may sound strange but the characters that I have set in my head arn't close to anyone real life. It kinda bugged me about Queen of Manticore when I was reading Crown of Slaves to find out she was black. No I'm not racist I always had her as a blonde and it's like half way thru "Oh this is what she looks like by the way" oh I was so upset

Eh whatever, I'll just have her as a blonde I can't imagine her any other way. And Alistar for me is black XD

Another step to come in e-publishing - when a character is first named, a portrait pops up AFTER the discription?

IIRC the Wintons being black had been mentioned earlier in the series, its just that its not something of any more significance to people in the books than hair colour is to people today so it doesn't get much attention.

She would be better as Mike Henke.

Sophie Okonedo as Queen Elizabeth.

I picture Mike Henke as being darker skinned than Freema

Web DuHavel points this out very clearly in CoS. He's talking to Oversteegen at Cathy Montaigne's reception, discussing race-based slavery in antebellum America, and describes Elizabeth as a "mulatto" who would have been a house servant (and sex slave), while Mike Henke, being much darker, would have been picking cotton. In other books, Mike is described as having a hairstyle called "Afro" (for reasons long forgotten).

That's what i was watching, but i doubt Law & Order UK is shown in America (its just rehashed plots of old L&O episodes set in London), so I quoted something they were likely to have seen.
