The Sag-Bs have the ability to fire 90 degrees offbore (really "control" 90 degree offbore), firing EDMs. In addition to it's bow & Stern walls, it carried a heavy BC grade graser energy armament. A single Sag-B could easily take a 1905 BC

I'd forgotten sag-B could do offbore. the grasers aren't really a problem. anyone could do that if they wished generally speaking a graser is a graser, manticore's might be more efficient and smaller for their throw weight but outside the haven sector people don't think the fewer but heavier school of design is the way to go.

with the cataphract being shared so widely to the SLN manticore can sell the EDM which is almost its equal and still retain the secrets of proper DDM/MDM.

really it is only the offbore and compensator that prevents the Sag b from being sellable. I do wonder how much work/time/money would be required to remove the off-bore ability.

of course that still leaves the compensator problem. how long can the GA keep that knowledge to themselves. how long before the merchant cartels are screaming for the ability?

or would they. yes it might speed up passage to the hyper limit but unless they start investing in better rad shielding and bigger more capable hyper drives the biggest time sink, the hyper part of the journey will not change.

I don't think the compensators will remain secret by the time we rejoin the Honorverse. Someone will get their hands on an LAC soon enough or get a peak at their compensators well enough to begin understanding the design. This individual would likely even pay royalties to the patent holder, but the secret will get out pretty soon.

That would argue for the Sag-B and a buffed up version of the Sag-B into the BC tonnage range may well be the export design for the next few years.

Merchie cartels don't worry about tactical speed- remember, mil spec comps are readily available, but the cost and greater upkeep outweigh the economic benefits of saving a day in a system (and the lack of milspec hyper generators keep them at lower hyper speeds as well.

It's the militaries and the news/packet delivery companies that are salivating over Manticore's compensators, not the bulk freight people.

The numbers say that freight companies should be very interested in mil-spec hyperdives and not very excited about compensators. You just don't gain enough time by accelerating faster. Better hyperdrives get your top speed MUCH faster, which matters a lot.

1) It might be easier for Honor's Blackbird yards to pull the shrike frame and redesign it with a lower power grazer, or even a good laser, and a good ESD launcher for system defense and anti piracy. Out on the Verge, they don't all up combat capable LACs.

Worst case scenario is they get hammered by the RF oe the MAN stealth birds. But they can't really defend against the MAN, and probably can't afford enough big ships to fend off a serioud attack anyway.

I seriously doubt the Navies of the GA are going to sell off their demob ships. They may, possibly grant export licenses for Blackbird and Hauptmann et al for certain hulls and technologies, but, seriously, besides the RF, who benefits by an arms race in the verge and former protectorates? Well yes, the ship yards...

I agree with you - but they don't seem interested in the text...

The Shrike magic is modern Fission piles, advanced comps, Beta squared nodes, bow/Stern walls, advanced ECM, and advanced superconducting rings. That's not including the FTL comms, advanced sensors and firecontrol, and the RMN's 2 second missile revolver.

All junk NO ONE else has, but wants.

It will be easier to build off the Havenite platform than the Manticorian one.

And as the entire power available from 20,000 tons of plutonium is equivalent to a few hundred liters of liquid hydrogen it just won't work for for people who are not blessed by plot.

Combat LACs need endurance, ridiculous redundancy, really killer Grazers (yes pun intended) and great magazine capacity. Purpose built System patrol & defense LACs need it to a far lesser degree. Especially if they're backed by a few modern DDs. Fine, use whichever of the many basic frames are available or start over with a pure export model that is not any of the above, which you will almost have to do anyway, to get the military to sign off on export licenses.

Beowulf's heavy industry is basically untouched. It was kept separate from the habitats for safety reasons.
