If they're Frontier Fleet they certainly won't want SDs. They can get and man multiple faster, more adequately armed Nevadas more easily at a far smaller maintenance cost.

The only ones who will want century old Scientists will be the real megalomaniacs - the ones who are only tangentially in touch with reality.

I think that the things should be sent to the breakers myself. Let your friendly tinpot dictator settle for a Nevada and a few more ribbons on his chest!

You guys are overlooking several things in regards to the SLN SD's. It's not manpower it's the mundane namely refit repair and maintenance. It cost oodles of cash to maintain a navy. When I was on active duty in the U.S. Navy it cost something like 1 million dollars a day in spare parts fuel paint etc to maintain one middle aged destroyer a carrier 2-3 million dollars a day or more.

And there will be some enterprising fleet admiral out there so used to gaming the system that he will gladly peel off one or two of the NCN (new constitution navy)SDs to meet the demand. I mean its not like accountability will suddenly be a thing.

Given how badly the League has just been bitten in the arse, it wouldn't surprise me to see accountability become very much a thing

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the tasks of GA task groups making "courtesy calls" on NSL systems was to count the number and type of ships, and compare that to the number and types of ships that are supposed to be there.

(Apologies if I miscounted my "quotes")

I expect a sea change in most single system Navies. With the improvements in missile pods and Lac designs I would be surprised if most systems don't opt for modern LAC squadrons paired with System Defense pods rather than a ton of hyper capable units. SDs and BCs are unlikely unless they have a need for convoy escorts or to project power.

Lets not forget that the Andies are also going to be prowling with their "peace keeping" patrols as outlined in a conversation with Honor in UH. Between the GA patrols and the IAN patrols it should be fairly easy to ID the systems who intend to go the warlord route, they'll be the ones stocking up to project power rather than protect their own.

LACs are a seriously attractive military export for the SEM and Grayson. However, does the tech in the reveal too much of tech in MDMs and ultra dense fusion bottles?

If Shrike Alphas can be made suitable for export along with MDM systems defense pods, piracy will become a much more dangerous proposition. That and turning Conquistadore will become much less attractive. There is very little advantage in being required to outspend a defender 100:1 just to barely get superior firepower. How much does an aggressor need to spend to ensure enough of his navy survives to take another system? LACs and MDM system defense pods are to Honorverse naval warfare what the machine gun was to pre-tank warfare; a heavy weight to the defender.

I wonder if instead of laying Manticore's more advanced tech out there by selling such things as ferets, shrikes, and katanas, it wouldn't be better to sell Havenite LACs which are and improvment over anything seen outside of the Haven sector withou opening the lockbox on the GA's more valuable goodies.

Refurbished Star Knights and Mars class cruisers would be better items to offer for sale than Sag Cs or Rolands.

Neither the Star Knight nor the Mars are appreciable more capable that the SLN CA. Those units are FF and would have been updated regularly. Updating the CMs and CM software controls will go a long way to making the FF CA competitive.

I will agree that redesigned Cimeteres with fission piles and increased automation may well be the answer. The space savings will increase their endurance quite nicely.

Sag A should be safe to sell. probably Sag-Bs as well. both were good but aside from automation and bow/stern walls nothing in them was truly a game changer. they were just the logical evolutions of the star knight.

the Sag-C was a game changer, due to its ability to fire DDMs and the number of control links.

The Sag-Bs have the ability to fire 90 degrees offbore (really "control" 90 degree offbore), firing EDMs. In addition to it's bow & Stern walls, it carried a heavy BC grade graser energy armament. A single Sag-B could easily take a 1905 BC

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

the big question is what to do with the compensators? If the SEM allows civilian designs to have them, they would be easier to protect and harder for pirates to take out. Selling that technology would let foreign navies, including the MAN, to have one of the key advantages of the RMN. How likely is that secret to remain in the GA's hand alone? Not sure, but any warship designed with the new compensators will comand a premium.
