With all this speculation, you do remember that the person bringing the photo to the SL intelligence head's attention is a primary target as one of the "bad guys" by Zhing-hwan in the earlier conversation. Would appear to be yet another Alignment manipulation of things to create havoc and screw the SL.

Indeed. But...

I can't imagine to what ends the Alignment would go to such lengths, but thorough conspiracy theorists or ONI investigators has to consider all angles. Like, a prison break. With MAlign assistance, the pigeon could have quietly flown the coop.

On second thought, I can imagine to what ends. He could be the new and improved Harahap. Well, maybe not improved, but certainly with a trick up his sleeve if he's "representing" Manticore.

This entire sequence is supposed to be a controlled trigger, the manty in the holo is probably an actual person who does not appear in the solly databases, likely because they have never been of interest to them, who was probably provably on Manticore during the time that the 93% match was on Smoking Frog. The original idea was probably to allow them to trigger the league whenever, with a method to scrub if they decide to do so, but now it is a particularly nasty piece of Operation Janus. That said we do know where this is headed, the Maya Crisis, which is apparently where the last straw is added to the camel's back, or the league realizes it anyway.

That's a nasty thought.

It could have something to do with a Malign contingency plan similar to Houdini? IOW, what if the Alignment knows the bi— er the Salamander is coming? The Alphas are smart enough that they had to at least consider a "what if" Salamander scenario.

The Alignment would love having Honor in charge. With everything that is happened, who better to take down the League? She will be filled with anger.

And people who plan for long term goals know that she is already in her sixties. Fifty years later, who knows what will happen. She is more likely to be a politician than an admiral.

I probably was not clear enough, the person who is a 93%
match to the fake manty is a real manty, likely some relative of the Wintons, probably at least two or three heartbeat from a peerage and thus not of interest, though considering that the league, or at least OFS, does not bother to keep a database that includes RMN commodores, it may be a grand duke. That said, the real nasty would be having the Manty be a member of SIS. Though again there is a mission scrub by having them actually be on manticore during the time in question.

Another possibility, certainly bioscuplt can achieve a 93% hit.

This is true. But if they can kill two birds with one stone, they will, like a counter punch to the home system wasting more SLN ships and possibly doing some more damage to Manticore with an all-in SLN EE violation of cowards hurtling KEWS.
