What with a Mars Class cruiser in orbit.
Heavily damaged and will never be a warship again. What systems and components make her a technological windfall and leap forward to Nuncio's home tech base? The heavily damaged Solarian freighter too is an enormous boost. Would insurance write that off? Top components I an think of right away. The medical bay and its computers, diagnostic tools, and teaching systems. Medicines and specialists from other worlds are just too expensive for Nuncio to import in the numbers they need. The most urgent of patients are seen now and the medical establishment gets a 100 - 200 year advancement in the process. The shipborne repair facilities are like a gift from Prometheus himself. Things break on ships even without grasers and laser heads blasting them into atoms. There would be repair bays for electronics, environmental systems, computers parts, and the pinnances or other EVA xraft. They have examples, and the tools to make what they need. Sometimes you need to tools that make the tools and jigs you need to make the tools. This doesn't begin to cover all the other things a second line warship of the Republic of Haven contains even in a battered state that would jump start an impoverished world like Nuncio. The military grade inertial compensator, electronic warfare systems, counter missiles control systems, LIDAR / RADAR integration. Additionally, there is the matter of all the Havenite Marine armor and supporting equipment that would be aboard. That makes very excellent and safe EVA suits for asteroid mining or protecting their prize. Granting select former State Security naval ratings to help make things go seems like a very real possibility on Nunxio's part while still shipping the Officers and Senior Noncoms off to justice on Haven. |

The SEM has an uplift program for the entire quadrant.
Medical including prolong, also infrastructure, and education etc. With special emphasis on impoverished systems. It is in the SEM's best interests to get the entire TQ up to snuff and contributing as soon as is feasible. The approx., twenty year hiatus before the next story arc should go a long way toward that. |

Ive actully thought about that. It could be the base core of a space station assuming fusion reactor is stable. Or parts broken up annbrought to the surface.
Now the SEM has businesses looking for investments and iirc this system could offer up a great tourist attraction with fairly small modern medical investment |

Very thoughtful set of ideas! It depends a bit how able the Nuncians are to make use of their opportunity. George

It's extremely impractical to use an Honorverse warship as anything other than a warship. It's possible, as per what's being done with Filereta's fleet, that some things may be of use as parts rather than sending them straight to scrap metal. That's about the best you'll get.

I was thinking it makes the core of a temporary orbital habitat. Using the pinnances and the freighters to take down higher tech built in the wreck and lofting orbital habitats and other material up. Being the Command for the Nuncio system defense fleet with the better computers, drone controls, and other facilities doesn't hurt either as they build from LAC to Destroyers to start. Building recon drones with the facilities on RHNS Anhur and the medical establishment might let them boot strap into the modern era like Grayson. The repair bays is THE leg up for them to be more self sufficient and self sustaining without going into debt and servitude paying for massive off world investment. |

For an entire planet, all the facilities on an obsolete PRN shp with a deathtrap reactor that was replaced in other ships ASAP, is pretty much an obsolete Solaran SD. Yes, there are maybe useful things, but enough to "jumpstart an entire planetary economy"? No way. Repair bay? So they have absolutely NO facilities for repairing their way more obsolete LACs? Somehow I really don't think so. Yes the stuff might help, it certainly can't hurt. But a planet is mighty huge and a Cruiser ain't no SD. To use it to bootstrap an entire planetary economy ... smokin' oakum. The med bay providing services for a planetary popultion of 9 or 10 figures, preposterous. Not trying to rain on your parade because it is really cool, but there's at least 2 previous Threads on the 1001 uses for obsolete SL SDs, and this seems to be another meander down that path. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You're missing the point by miles. Miles. Nuncio is dirt poor and an obsolete RHN Mars cruiser is one hundred to two hundred years more advanced than their current economy. They have primitive industrial facilities and the machine shops aboard the RHNS Anhur is the jump start to build better machine tools and systems. This is the seed to grow. You have to have the tools, to make the tools; to make the jigs, fixtures, and tools you need. The tools and knowledge are there in the ships fully functional computer. There is parts and systems to study and replicate. The teaching manuals, simulators, and even some Naval ratings that could be pardoned in exchange for building more machine tools, parts, etc. This isn't about repairing the RHNS Anhur......this IS about the systems and components of Anhur teaching the people of Nuncio how to make those things without going into debt to offworld lenders. |

You're building a mountain in the kids sandbox. Anhur has a reactor that even the PRN knows was junk and a ticking time bomb. To try to use it as a platform for anything is gross malfeasance. Why as a full member of the Star Empire of Manticore, does Nuncio need obsolete junk as a seed for anything besides more junk? Wait 6 months or a year and the full (modernized) package of what Manticore delivered to Grayson will also be delivered to Nuncio. Full medical facilities for the entire planet in one fully grown and mature tree. All the training and technology, The full, military replacement of their obsolete LACs They do not need obsolete technology, they need the patience for what Manticore owes them as a full and valued member of the empire. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ok, yeah the ship is a "prize." It will make fantastic field trips for High school senior class trips. A great lab for junior college technology classes. Maybe a good week field trip for the loal Military training/recruiting cadre.
And, yes there is some potentially useful stuff to be salvaged. The entire machine shop will be a splendid addition to any Trade school's machine shop. The med supplies that are not out of date will help the LAC base's med departmwnt's supply chain. Most of it will be outstripped by the technology Manticore is about to supply FREE and probably before nuncio can strip anything out of Anhur out of its own limited resources. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
