There is a possibility that the improbable cat has decided the forum has become too solemn and is pranking or trolling us.

Another potential use for Carmichal! Take some nanomachines. Make them capable of hanging in the air (like mist.) Make them carnivorous, self replicating, able to destructively image brains/nerves, and then simulate said brain. (You'll need to distribute the simulation obviously.) Ideally they will be modular and able assemble into something like a human form, except extra strong and highly resilient to damage. Failing that you can have some specialized nanobots that can act as artificial neurons and seize control of people's bodies. The brain simulation can easily be used as the nanoswarms AI. With a little bit of code from cybernetics and a bit of code from VR you'll have no trouble creating an interface between the brain simulation and normal nano programs. You can use a similar trick to interrogate "people".

When you return Carmichael return him with a nanocloud inside. You'll need to find a fanatic to be consumed and have their brain simulated. Your nannies kill everyone like its a bad horror HD. The best part is this is all legal since the AI will only target members of the military.

When "Honor" returns triumphant no one will ever suspect that she's actually a horrifying superweapon. I mean, the Treecats will, but by that time its already far, far too late.

The main problems I see are that any slight errors in simulation or psychological assessment of the chosen martyr could lead the nanocloud to turn against you and the end of all things human. But its a risk I'm sure the Mandarins would be willing to take.

Yet, I do agree with 'qpac's "inherent notion." Simply killing Carmichael without extracting some utility out of him first, would be strategically irresponsible.

Carmichael is from Royalty. So if I were the League, I'd be giving him a Royal shakedown.

It's funny to be in Carmichael's shoes. The League could use him as a bargaining chip.

"Carmichael's life for MWJ access."

If the League tells Carcmichael that that is going to be an ultimatum, it would be a very sad day for Sir Lyman. Carmichael would know that death is imminent. Some regimes don't play fairly. Especially when they're backed in a corner. Akin to North Korea milking the captured US spy ship, and forcing hostages to make political statements, fiasco.

An aside:
Are "interrogations" filed under "tactic" or "strategy?"

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Yet Albrecht's wife is said, in textev, to specialize in "bioweapons research." And the "Assassin Nanotech" has basically the same danger of mutation.

What's a Lord Skimper?

Regardless, I am an endless font of greatly (evil) ideas!

I'm not actually sure if the nanomachine death mist idea is something that the Solarian League has the tech to attempt. If it is they would almost certainly screw it up. You don't take a month to integrate horribly finicky technologies and not get some small glitch. There is also the considerable issue that the pool of people likely to volunteer for the AI role is nearly the same as the pool of people who should absolutely not be allowed to be the AI.

Personally I recommend the spy route. Its much less likely to end humanity for one.

Its only against the Edict if it goes out of control and starts killing civilians. That said, I'm reasonably certain if anyone in the Malign suggested that they would be culled post-haste. This wouldn't be so much as a stride down the dark side rabbit hole, but reaching the bottom of the dark side rabbit hole and then renting a backhoe.

What’s his names wife was a nanoweapon researcher. Who do you think came up with the assassination nanoweapons?

There is a slight difference between the nano assassin they have, and an attempt to create a sentient self-replicating, cloud of flesh eating nanobots.

You're describing Honor and Nimitz. They are self-replicating.

Ask the Maccabeus survivors. They all agree there were Honor and Nimitz's every fucking where!

Treecat myth:
Treecats are not eating human flesh off of bone. They are slicing and dicing it off the bone. The first time a two-leg sees the aftermath of an enraged cat attack, they don't know what the fuck to call it...

the whatchamacalit.

And the Malign hates Honor and Raven! They don't want to make more of them! That would be the worst!

It’s like Christmas. It’s the thought that really counts. :P

And note that if they do not comply she is free to use KEW strikes. The Edict does not apply because they were given the opportunity to surrender and continued resistance instead.
