For Torch or Mesa upgrade them with the Wolfhound and Avalon.
For the RMN Just needs a new LAC. Marine LAC carries a Platoon of Marines. A Bonus would be the Helen class ELAC an Escort CLAC based upon the Agamemnon but with 15 LAC staggered LAC bays on each broadside with Roland Hammerheads. ________________________________________

Nitpick - Yes Yamato was to beach herself on Okinawa and fight the invaders from that unsinkable position. But she was the only battleship on that mission (escort of the cruiser Yahagi and 8 destroyers). Her sister ship Musashi had been sunk over 5 months before during the Battle of Leyte Gulf attempting to repulse the initial US amphibious landings in the Philippians. |

I suppose the Crown could mandate that all freighters use Military wedges and carry 4-6 LAC in dedicated bays. Have sidewalls and military training for all captains. Four to Six Shrike can defend against pirates and with Military wedges freighters can outrun anything bigger. Plus you have to be pretty brave or have inside knowledge to attack what might be a SD. Plus the 6 LAC could layer a 36 missile launch to appear to be a SD for added discouragement. With similar range to pre 1915 missile and CM.
A lone Freighter could do enough to scare away or escape from pirates or raiders without additional craft. 6 such craft might not even need run away. The cost of having the Military provide military nodes and LAC and crews will be less than providing escort ships. And all Manty freighters would be much faster for delivering cargo. ________________________________________

Ha ha ha ha. No. There are so many economic, security, and diplomatic reasons that's a total non starter. And I seems to recall those've been explained to you, repeatedly, in the past. |

You can use SL tech for those going into SL areas so the technology doesn't matter. The LAC would stay in the outer system and join up for the hyper space trip. The Crown would foot the cost for the military nodes bought from Beowolf for SL tech versions. The LAC are cheap compared to other escorts and with military wedges the ships can travel faster in both normal and hyperspace. Operational costs for military wedge running and hyperspace won't be an operators cost. In the Empire all ships can use Manty GA tech without problems. In the GA the LAC would be sequestered in main systems or defer to local navy forces or just stay on board. No diplomatic problems, economic costs are assumed by the crown as "payback" for the disruption of shipping in the SL. Technology is known so having it doesn't matter. In the SL faster shipping faster hyperdrive bands and junction travel can go a long way to restoring Manty GA shipping in the League after hostilities end. LAC in the SL might need to be the export versions or even older designs. But with huge ships even big older LAC can be easily carried. Bottle tech, older compensators, Lasers and PD etc... Haven should have oodles of them. ________________________________________
