Many have, like me, been waiting for the first Honorverse movie for a long time. After Evergreen shutdown, the prospects seemed, and continue to seem, pretty bleak. The solution? Kickstart an Honorverse movie.

Look at what Alec Peters did with Star Trek:Axanar. The intro short, A Prelude to Axanar, had a Kickstarter goal of $10,000. They raised over $100,000 (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/194429923/star-trek-prelude-to-axanar).

Now granted, a lot of the Axanar production work was for screen credit, and the StarTrek fanbase is far larger. But still - why isn't it reasonable to believe we can raise $50-150K? That doesn't seem that big a stretch. (And Alec Peters, sadly, seems to have an idle sound stage and a bit of time on his hands, God bless CBS/Paramount, and their cold, cold, mercenary hearts! Mr. Peters might be persuaded to offer advice on such an campaign, at least.)

Please, Mr. Weber, mount the effort for a 20-minute short. If nothing else, it could open the Honorverse to a new readership. If the effort is successful, leverage that success to mount a larger effort. There's no loss in trying.

This would certinly be a cool idea but it very much depends having someone like alec peters to spearhead the venture.

also where to set it. no way can you cover any of the novels in a short film, maybe one of his shot stories, maybe ms midshipwoman harrington? or perhaps the Hard way home?

one thing we are sorely lacking is any stories covering that gap from her promotion to ensign to the gryphon disaster, and in that time she we know for fact that she commanded an LAC and rescued rating from a power/impeller room explosion.

intresting as they are the story of honor's parents, her bonding with Nimitz and all the others just don't work for an introduction to the Honorverse.

I wouldn't trust Alec Peters with a goldfish, let alone a film production. Dude's a scummy bastard who singlehandedly destroyed the good thing Star Trek fanfilms had going.

forget Alec Peters, focus on what he and his team created.

Prelude to axanar is a fantastic short film, all more impressive for being fan made.

what we want is someone who can due something similar, though obviously with RFC's permission.

there are lots of talented people out there, quite of few of which are hopefully Honor fans and would be willing to help make such an endeavour work.

What about a short film that seems to be excerpts from what could be a series of regular or TV films, based on specific books and/or short stories from the whole arc, maybe like chops from a synopsis of Honor's career.

But as was suggested by the OP anything that can expand the reader base would also possibly lead to further requests for the films to be made.

What about something just like Prelude to Axanar, a documentary film about a certain important battle. Like Trevor's Star or 3rd or 4th Yeltsin?

while i like the idea i'm not sure how well it can be done.

prelude worked becuase 90% of the trek fanbase know the federation and klingons fought before. even those who barely know trek know some of the basics due to how big an effect it has had on culture/society over the last 5 decades.

while the honor fans are just as passionate, if this is to be used to jump start something bigger then it needs to be a little more self contained then one huge battle in a war that will be at least 4 films if this works.

as i said before start with honor's middy cruise or if we don't want such a big time jump to OBS assuming this short jump starts a film and that OBS is where the films start then what about "Let's dance", i think it is. the short that covers honor taking Hawkwing after that slaver depot in silesa. ok lacking a bit in ship combat but not only does it show us her commitment to doing what must be done, her going off to the crusher at the end is a perfect setup to OBS.

Or perhaps someone (an older Honor perhaps) discussing some of the highlights of her history with (if it can be managed) a glimpse or two into that action?

Perhaps two simple sets, her library or office in the Steading and a background set taken from a ship's bridge, picture a Captain's station in front of a panel representing a Bridge station behind her with a more youthful Honor fighting her ship, a little haze representing smoke and sparks flying from the panel behind her.

Just a thought.

Just my opinion of course and probably not worth the paper it's not written on.

Make it with a Canadian Company, 30% boost to the dollar, we make lots of Movie and TV space shows, even low budget ones.

I just wonder if MWW is just too busy doing other things.

That's not a bad idea. Don't need to have Honor present (no confusion about casting then), just a critique of her actions. Could even be a group discussion by junior officers, trying to analyse why decisions were made.
