Oh, it's a leftist thing. They were Protesting for the Right Cause, so nothing they did could possibly be Wrong. The people who came to listen to this Evil Right-Winger, and showed their support for those Conservative Causes, were Wrong and Evil and whatever happened to them was their own fault.

Wow, Trump is really getting people to show off their bias at least.

Considering that the police in USA tend to be staunchly rightwing, uh yeah, i´m suuure they would go with your garbage.

As a nation-wide average, the police as a whole are right of center. However, the big city police chiefs i.e. the dudes who give the orders, tend to be LEFT of center.

The German news magazine Der Spiegel did an interesting cover in response to Trump. It shows Trump with a bloody knife in one hand and the bloody head of a destroyed Statue of Liberty in the other. Very appropriate.

Wild overreaction actually. The humor videos were a better reaction than hysteria.

The biggest issue I have is with the response to the riots. With the level of violence there should have been multiple arrests. not just 2. What I want to know is why weren't more people arrested? If the police were told not to arrest people, that is a big problem. I don't know if that is the case or not, but I want to know what instructions were issued to the police.

There needs to be an investigation of the police response to this. 1) what were the orders 2) would a different response have prevented some of the damage 3) why weren't more rioters arrested - dozens should be in jail now. This may be a liberal philosophy problem or it may just be a preparedness issue or it could be something else. We need to find out what went on or it will be repeated the next time.

Back when I was in Uni, Campus security was the police agency. City, county, State only allowed by request, mostly for LSU home football games, and felonies. Yes your questions of arrests etc are valid. So is who was in charge. perhaps we will hear more if UCB security announces its moves. Maybe not. I only wonder if it was students or "Professional agitators" doing the rioting.

back in the day was a "Speaker Ban Bill" protecting us from atheists and Communists. Poor guy got booed off the stage bu 750 of us 18yo children.

The campus police fiefdom ended shortly before I started college at my school due to the botching of serious felonies by the campus police. After those fiascos the poorly trained pseudo-police were no longer allowed to run things and they had to use the real police. If the campus police at Berkley were responsible for this fiasco, perhaps the same needs to happen there.

Yeah... it really wasn't.

The President of the United States is tweeting up a storm this morning about "any negative polls" being "fake news".

Please biochem... stop and THINK about the consequences of things like that being done by the freaking PRESIDENT. The leader of the country is issuing blanket declarations that any data the press or anyone else publishes that he doesn't like is fraudulent. And doing so with zero evidence or backing, just the issued proclamation to all of his fans and followers that it is so.

Care to explain to me the qualitative difference between that and any tin pot dictatorship's treatment of the press? (and please, spare me the "well he isn't having them killed" facetious response)

Oh, and he's also expressing public outrage that a "so-called judge" can block anything he orders and asking what the country is coming to that a judge can stop him from doing anything. Ummm... its coming to a country with a co-equal Judicial branch of its fucking government that's what. But he either just DOESN'T GET THAT or he DOESN'T CARE. If that doesn't scare you you're not paying attention. Its time to stop the "take him seriously not literally" nonsense because the truth is, you're not doing either one if this doesn't bother you.
