Everybody Dies a surprise twist like the Andies Crown is an agent of the D's or something.

Are we saying that the next book is the final book of the Honorverse, or the final book of the current story arc?

Those are two very different things. I could see dealing with the MAlign as being the thrust of a new story arc. It seems that after the buildup that the conflict with the Malign got esp. since Shadow of Saganami, just droping it is cruel and unusual punishment for the reader...

Final book of the current story arc. Himself has mooted the idea of starting another series, but the last I heard he'd decided against it. There still may be books filling in things or talking about certain characters, like Honor's father's career in the Biological Survey Corps.

Well, that would be interesting. Particularly as he was never in the BSC as far as I know, being a Manticoran citizen.

I had heard the story was supposed to tell his story of his time in the Marine Corp, especially the event which drove him to become a doctor to fix the neuro damage he saw (which was discussed in brief in Beginnings)

Uncle Jacques was in the BSC, I never saw it mentioned that Alfred went back into the black ops side after he chose the path to become a doctor (which he was on when he met Jacques and Allison).

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

I thought the bell tolls for an end of the Honorverse storyline. Which to me implies an end to Honor. I have this stinking sinking drinking feeling that I'm going to lose my baby through some temporary insanity of the author's or perhaps because of some errant MAlign nanite somehow cross contaminating and affecting the author...

which, by the way...

was part and parcel behind the reasoning of the EEV thread, to safely remove Honor from the equation without killing her.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

I see no obvious reason for Himself to kill off Honor at this time. There's no point to it. She's too senior to be getting her hands in the really interesting stuff.

Yeah, I confused the two. Both stories would make interesting reading for some people. I am not one of them.

Unless she's either grounded in Landing or her Steading on Grayson as the equivalent of Chief of Naval Operations for either (or both?) Navies she will be a Fleet Commander in much the same situation as Halsey or Nelson, she's going to be out there in Harm's Way with a deck under her feet just as Admiral Goldpeak is.

If / when 8th Fleet goes hunting for "Peak Bear" she will be right there in the middle of it, doing her job with the same courage, skill and leadership we've seen all through her career.

And if her career finally ends as Nelson's did she will go out doing what she does best, kicking the HELL out of her nation's enemies.

Not such a bad way for a warship sailor to go and I think this is the kind of end Himself had in mind for her originally.
****

Just my opinion of course and probably not worth the paper it's not written on.
