Saw Rogue 1 yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought it came back to the original concept somewhat with lots of combat, both physical and fighters. No real major fleet actions between large ships, but good anyway. Not necessarily an "everyone lived happily ever after" show though.

One interesting aspect of the film was Plot Armour. Only a couple of characters had it, and those were pretty much secondary/tertiary characters in the movie (Vader, Tarkin and Leia).
Films where characters don't have plot armour are (IMHO) generally a bit more interesting as you don't know which of the main characters will make it to the end...

And I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched it yet by saying who does or does not make it to the final credits...

Not sure I will watch this... if I do it will be checked out from the libary...

However this is the 5th movie of the series that has or mentions the Death Star... Seems that Hollywood is in a rut!!! Nothing knew.

Sorry to hear that Ms Fisher has died today... No more Princess.

I've been told that she has filmed her scenes for the next installment. So a little more Princess.

I appreciate that Michael, I took the wife to see it yesterday afternoon. We enjoyed it but the ending ... well, I'm not going to spoil it for the few who haven't seen it yet.

We thought the special effects varied from dang good to (Vader voice) "Impressive."

I fully intend to add it to the video library when the DVD comes out.

Just my opinion of course and probably not worth the paper it's not written on.

I guess you can call this "Episode 3.5" to the original Star Wars "A New Hope" Episode 4. 8-)

That's a pretty accurate summary. Surprisingly watchable, for all that.
