To those who voted for Trump hoping th would drain the swamp:I hope the change we get as a country is the change you want. I know my step-daughter is creaming her pants with expectation of overturning Roe v Wade. And She was sick when Trump got the nomination and was voting for Johnson until the archangels in their Crystal cathedrals declared trump a "proto-christian." Talk (IMHO) about voter manipulation.

Fully agree.
Strange to say that from the other side of the world, but it was like a very slow train crash. Horrifying but hard to look away from.

My big worry now is not Trump. Because he has no detailed policies and no experience, he will only be the visible face of the GOP's back room apparatchiks. What worries me is that his most radical supporters THINK they just got a license to run riot. As time goes by and Trump inevitably fails to deliver on their expectations of legalized xenophobia and repealed human rights, they may go off the chain.

That´s bad enough, but i think you underestimate the risk of Trump, what if he DO manage to push through some of his garbage? He´s offensive and an idiot, not stupid, and he now has a majority in both houses to more easily bribe to vote for his idiocies. |

Remember, Bush had Cheney. Trump has Pence... just a different flavor of bigot, but with the government experience to do something about it while knowing how to maintain a surface appearance of respectability. And this is keeping in mind it was reported that when Trump was shopping for VP picks they were being told they could be in charge of "domestic and foreign policy"...... so you know, EVERYTHING. While Trump would focus on big picture "making America Great Again", or basically standing in front of the cameras stroking his own ego and doing none of the actual behind the scenes work like his entire life has been so far. |

It's not about courtesy, it's about having the government throw people in jail for saying Bad Words. I thought that went out with McCarthy.
This is a free country. Our freedom must not be held hostage by every whiner that claims to be 'Offended' by it. Anybody can choose to Take Offense at anything. Some people want to offend you. When you get all puffed up with offense and indignation, you give them power over you. People have the right to be assholes. You have the right to call them assholes. Forcing them to be silent because they might Offend Your Delicate Sensibilities is right out of Orwell's 1984. ------------------- Mrs. Tweedy! The chickens are revolting!! |

I agree, some people take it as far as you're saying, but I've seen plenty of photos/stories of blatant hate speech in the past couple days, so some level of political correctness is absolutely necessary. |

So if you walk up to Neil DeGrasse Tyson and call him an uppity nigger who should forget astrophysics and get back to picking cotton, his only option is call you an asshole? Am I to assume you would just accept that and not escalate? Do you think every such exchange will consist of a peaceful exchange of Fuck Yous and folks will just accept that and move on? There is a legal principle that "fighting words" are an incitement to breach of the peace. (US Supreme Court, Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire, 1942.) I will grant that some people have overdone the agenda-based editing of language, but I disagree that there is a legal right to be an asshole. Not when being an asshole provokes trouble. |
