what happens when something similliar is done to LAC missiles? now i'm not saying you will somehow get a MK 16 mod G warhead on a missile that small but i'm sure LAC missiles are going to get a lot nastier when the same sort of mods are done to them.

The primary reason for "easy kills" on the Sollies isn´t due to the missiles being hyperdamaging, but because their electronics and engines are so much better that more hits are scored, less are intercepted and the hits scored have a higher tendency for nastier hits. They´re essentially overwhelming the defenses at every layer.

A thousand mosquito-bites is a serious nuisance, a million is "ouch".

It's a combination of both factors. The ability to get through the defenses (ECM and ECCM) and the harder hitting power of the Mark 16G warhead--approximately greater than or equal to capital missiles (SD, DN) deployed just a few years before.

My point was that even without using the newer warhead, Sollies simply does not stand up well to Haven sector attacks(and especially of the RMN style).

The improved warheads are just the "cherry on top" that makes it an absolute curbstomp.

Most likely. Though I guess due to their diminutive size it might turn out that David decides it's not (yet) practical on a LAC missile to shoehorn in whatever upgraded grav generator hardware led to the improved focusing on the Mark 16Gs. (At least not without shrinking the warhead size; which would probably more that offset any gain in focusing efficiency).

That's a plausible enough claim if he wanted to leave the LACs less effective for now (maybe to make fights between them and SLN BC raiders more harrowing). But you'd expect the improvements to be fitted everywhere possible.

We do know the Shrike's got the improved lensing for their onboard graser, but I don't know if it means anything that nothing was said about their (and the Ferrits') missiles getting a boost as well. <shrug>

Ferret missiles were already capable of moderate damage on Haven-style CA's, which are probably as well armored as the similar sized Solly battlecruisers. Even without a Mk16-G style missile change, that's going to be pretty destructive considering that even the original Ferrets used in Buttercup carried approximately 100 shipkillers.

I actually think it was the Ferret/Katana missile damage that aided the Mark 16 mod-G's development, rather than it starting high and flowing down. The original FTL comms started on drones, and was later applied to ships, which are larger and didn't require as much miniaturization right?

And since it took downsizing the grav focusing, what I think actually happened for the mod-G, was it actually IS using a downsized superdreadnought missiles grav focuser.
