Do gravitic sensors have a maximum range? If so, how long is it?

The range depends on the size of the sensor. Shipborne sensors can have a range of a dozen or so light minutes, depending on size and technology.

The massive system arrays, which can be hundreds of kilometers across, can have a range of light months, again according to size.

Ah, thanks.

In case anyone else reading has the answer, does anyone know how ships in the honorverse deal with waste heat?

It appears to be the smart paint currently is used as a system to radiate waste heat on warships. Designs in Travis Long's time used radiator panels.

Magic. Don't look too closely.

To elaborate on kzt's "magic" there's a group of advisors David has accumulated, known as BuNine, and some of them said (assuming I'm remembering correctly) that the ships can somehow (this is where the magic comes in) dump heat into the Alpha wall interface through their active wedge. (Or presumably into the next higher hyper wall in they're already in hyper)

When was that mentioned? I thought it was still the smart paint.

If you want some textev, chapter 9 of Mission of Honor talks about waste heat a bit, in the form of an internal monologue from one of the MA scout ship captains musing over his ship's hiding from some Grayson cruisers.

The wedge thing doesn't come up (presumably since spider drive ships don't have them), but it mentions that 'current technology could recapture and use an enormous percentage of that heat, but not all of it' (aka honorverse tech is simply extremely efficient), and that what they can't use is radiated through the skin of the ship (using a warship's smart paint or the MA's more advanced stealth coatings) in directions away from enemy sensors. This, of course, has the consequence that you can't be stealthy in every direction at once, since you have to pick *some* direction to radiate the waste heat in. (At least, if you don't have a wedge up to dump the heat into hyper.)

For the wedge heat dumping thing, see the last paragraph of this pearl.

An Honorcon panel a couple years ago.
(Edit: and the infodump MuonNeutrino found)

So I was right on the smart paint. I never heard anyone mention the wedge heat sump mentioned at the con before.
