I have been away until the snippets started again and am Thankful that RFC is blessing us with teasers.

I read the shorts and long snippets in one sitting and my first random thoughts were:
• Did Nimue and Merlin kidnap Clyntahn to the CAVE? His disappearance would put the Inquisition in an untenable position. The Jihad would unravel.
• Was Owl contemplating an attempt to crack open the Key at the peril of his own destruction? If he succeeded did it contain those Archangels personalities mentioned in the Clyntahn snippet?
• Would a visitation from Merlin and subsequent invitation to Baron Wind Song to take his Army home to Harchong and assume the mantle of Emperor be of any interest to him?

Just some thoughts what say you all??
I am not young enough to know everything!

The cave is probably the best guess... what happens after his encounter with the archangels is an even more tantalizing mystery.

I think you might be talking about Rainbow Waters rather than Wind Song. RW is the commander of the MH after all. I'm not aware of any basis for speculating in the direction you are proposing here...

Oooh! Nahrmahn would absolutely hate that!

The whole part about him being able to be in the same room with him yet he's unable to reach out and choke the life out of Clyntahn with his bare hands would be a bit too much for him to deal with.

On the other hand, I figure he'd get a great amount of joy tormenting Clyntahn by 'haunting' him as a 'ghost'. I can see Nahrmahn 'staying up nights' thinking of new and different ways to haunt him.

Wouldn't be the same joy he'd get if he could kill him- preferably very, very slowly and painfully- mind you, but it could assuage his sense of helplessness a bit.

There is quite a long list of folk who would dearly love the opportunity to twist the knife in Clyntahn, as slowly and painfully as possible... If all this is in the cave, Nahrman should count himself lucky to be moved to the head of the line and have the opportunity to make the good vicar as miserable as possible.

Oh? You don't think OWL wouldn't happily lend him a remote or two?

Don't forget Nahrmahn had a VR suit made so that he could interact with his wife. Putting Clyntahn into one would let Nahrmahn get his hands on him. Clyntahn is used to being completely in control. Placing him in a VR environment where Nahrmahn and Owl control EVERYTHING would shatter his ego. They could start by having Clyntahn witness first hand every battle since he started the war. Be interesting to see if he could stand watching battles rather than just reading about them.

I don't think it would worry him in the slightest. This is the guy who has sent dozens of people to the full Punishment of Schueler, and has certainly watched some of them go through it – he was there for Gwylym Manthyr to spit in his face. My bet is that it would either satisfy him (if his forces won) or enrage him (if they didn't).

If there were to be any chance that he personally could be hurt, now that might be different, but I have no idea whether or not he's a physical coward as well as a bully.

OWL was a tactical computer originally. As pointed out in the last book, he can more than a bit bloodthirsty himself and, since his 'awakening,' he's developed his own feelings toward the Grand Inquisitor. Given the opportunity, I can see OWL eagerly putting an end to Clyntahn all on his own.

Fortunately for Clyntahn, he's still an AI and bound is by the orders given to him by Merlin and Nimue. I don't think that Merlin would leave him in the cave without telling OWL not to kill him, or more specifically, Owl is to keep him alive.

You can do an AWFUUUUUUUUUL lot to someone, and still "keep them alive"... especially with OWL's medical facility with TF tech.

Better that he be put into each battle (as a grunt) and "killed" in every one, only to awake into a fresh battle and be "killed" again.
