Well just remember that High Ridge did get his just desserts in the end. IIRC he's doing a 29 year stretch as a guest of the Manticoran penal system. Hopefully at Manticore s equivalent of Alcatraz.

Why wasn't Nixon impeached? So far, there has never been any evidence of crime discovered against HRC. irrelevant I suppose in Rules of the House, there is such a thing as protecting your sources, (think Journalists), and these are the High ridge files, Who knows what evil lurks there ... The Baron Knows. Sometimes even idiots let sleeping dogs lie. RFC just does not do data dumps within the story of the picky little rules, or the actual social welfare programs (only that to vote you pay $1 more in taxes than you receive in welfare payments.) Helas, chou, Je m'en fache.

It was Earl North Hollow who had the notorious blackmail files. Not a lot of difference in practice, but High Ridge would have to rely on North Hollow to bail him out rather than controlling the files directly. .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

Probably. That wouldn't prevent him from being arrested for what NH was blackmailing HR into doing... .

Though in Massachusetts, the last iirc 4 Speakers of the House are visiting Club Fed, as is a prior Speaker of the House of the US Congress. It can be done. |

Politics.
If Summervale had tossed High Ridge in to a cell he would have faced a complete political revolt from the Conservative Association. Since Summervale was trying to get a war vote threw the House of Lords that was the last thing he needed at the time. |

No one has mentioned Parliamentary privilege yet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parliamentary_privilege I don't know if there is some form of it in the SKM. Based on the Cromarty govt's actions, it seems that starting a wild goose chase against the leakers would be more costly than it was worth. I mostly agree with Noblehunter's point, although there should never be a situation where any politician can act as though they are above the law. http://www.upi.com/Archives/1991/06/12/ ... 676699200/ A very old story (early nineties) but one which reinforces the concept of rule of law. I believe that when political leaders are accountable in terms of being law-abiding it has a beneficial effect on society. |

Speaking as someone who has been around the block here, I want to reinforce Duckk's point. Those times when current real world politics come up here have become heated quickly and ends up ruining the discussion on whatever thread they pop up on.
I am here to discuss the writing of David Weber whose work I enjoy immencely along with the give and take over that we have on the forums. I don't want politics intruding, especially since I'm as capable of getting heated as anyone else. So if talking about Hillary or the Donald is your thing, take it to politics where I am sure you will be joined by others who are wanting to be part of that discussion. On a sidenote, I remember participating in Ecunet which was a forum for Christians when the big hot button issue was ordaining homosexuals. Gracious. What a mess. I eventually withdrew because my blood was boiling far too much of the time. I swore off such discussions at that point. No on line political discussions for Don... Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Here's a hint. Duck said, in not so friendly red letters, to take it elsewhere. If RFC is God, Duck is Raguel. (I know, but I wanted to use that Raguel line ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are so going to die. :p ~~~~ runsforcelery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ still not dead. |
