Junk the SDs and ransom back the POWs. I mean if you want cash surely the cadre is worth more than the ships even to the SL. Ships cost nothing to warehouse in orbit, POWs have to be fed, etc.

As stated by others, dead horse dead horse -- but the one thing we didn't shoot down too terribly hard... was likely a gradually ferrying of the things to Meyers to become an SDF force over a period of time. Our assumption is that there's no reason nor yards available not needed for building better craft -- and that the House of Thomas could do a Grayson and turn the old SD('s) into at least moderate system protectrate/SDF ships by upgrading their compensators, CM capabilities, EW suite, and tractor as many pods as possible to their hulls.

Maybe there would be an interior jury rig that would make them effective CM platforms with vast quantities of CM's available, but that's about it.

Once their yards are up to GA tech levels and Meyers is turning out things at the level of say Sag-C's, etc. the repurposed SD's would then be sold to "Verge sector navies" /rinse/lather/repeat as those sectors stabilize, etc.

...but still a dead horse...

Slight problem as Meyers already has a bunch of ships that it can turn into the RMyN (Royal Meyers Navy) namely Commodore Thurgoods captured BC's and escorts which IIRC has 6-7 BC's plus screen. Why waste the money to transfer all those ships.

If you want a reason why not to sell the SLN SD'S look no further than the battleships operated by the ABC states in South America these were mostly prestige ships and after the 20's almost never left port. In 1943 after Brazil declared war on Germany the two vessels were surveyed one was judged barely above scrap and the other was made ready for sea. That ship limped out of port on two engines headed for Norfolk VA in route first one then the other engine broke down and the ship had to be towed. Once the ship reached Norfolk a more thorough survey was conducted and the ship was judged to expensive to refit and repair and take an estimated three years to complete.

This thread is definitely engaging in necrotic equine abuse.

Mostly agreed, but with the poster on this thread being new, I was mostly recapping the one scenario we didn't totally shoot down. But to answer the question, assume that Battle Fleet arrives in Meyers and all they see are Thurgood's BC's, so they come in and blow the battlecruisers to smithereens. vs. SD's which though obsolete against the GA or IAN are still enough to keep Battle Fleet away. Especially if the SD's fire control is upgraded to handle Mark 16's.

Also rememberL story-wise, we're still in the early days" of technicians headed off to Bolthole or seeing what the Andermani can add to the battle equation. This scenario also only makes sense because of Oyster Bay/the Yawata Strike meaning that for the next few years, there no available shipyards turning out new SD(p)s, Nike(s), Sag-C's, etc.

However >98% of threats in the Honorverse are able to be opposed with a BC level defense, because their Navies only have BCs. Unless you are truely worried about Battle Fleet or the GA invading your system, an SD level defense is a complete waste of reasources. And if you are truely worried about the GA of BF, unless you have 30-50 wallers AND appropriate escorts, you will just be run over by any of those fleets. You may as well just build a fleet for the threats you can handle.

Now, can we put away the Ouji board away and let the horse's sprit rest.

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."
