One nice thing about a blog where people aren't afraid to disagree is that often you wind up learning something new. It is important, whenever you can think of a method, to test both old and new against reality. This is not often easy!

One approach is to use a reiterative method, with a deliberate inclusion of the steps of
1) searching to know your assumptions
2) working out the results of those assumptions
3) comparing with reality.
When working with assumptions (axioms) there is no known direct way of testing them. You need to test the results.

To see how hard this can be, look at geometry. For a very long time, Euclidean non-curved geometry was thought to be the only possible one. Then the two non-Euclidean ones were devised by modification of the parallel lines axiom. One gives a curved geometry for closed situations. The other gives a curved geometry for open situations. IIRC, the current assumption is that the open type best fits an expanding universe.

I wonder how many other things we "know for sure" aren't that certain

This, in turn, virtually ensures that they will ‘choose’ a lifetime of carcinogenic and otherwise toxic cross-sex hormones, and likely consider unnecessary surgical mutilation of their healthy body parts as young adults.”

As opposed to a society using the coercive powers of government and religion to force children into artificial gender roles? I am definitely aging and University was 40something years ago. My aphasia gets worse every month. But sex (MF) is genetically determined, gender is a function of society. Sexuality is the individual's unique expression of the intersection of sex and gender. Probably with the struggle for independence tossed in. Seems (imvho) that conservatives want/need rues and strict adherence to them, and are therefore, somewhat put out whan individuals violate the societal rules of gender.

I find it strange that the same liberals that tell people not to be dissatisfied about their weight encourage them to be dissatisfied with one of the most basic aspects of their existence.

That's because, sorry to say this, you have no clue what you are talking about.

The whole positive body image thing is, at its core, about getting people to a point where they're motivated to improve their health without being driven to depression by body image issues. It's not about being happy while stuffing your face with burgers, it's about being able to go to a gym without getting heckled by people who think that calling people land whales is motivation (It works on some people, no denying that, but definitely not everyone).

Second, being trans is not about "being dissatisfied with your gender", just like being gay isn't about "being dissatisfied with people of the opposite sex". It's not a choice you make.

Seriously, have you done any reading about trans issues, as told by people affected by them? Or are you getting all your information on this from people who believe that LGBTQ is just a fad people go through before settling into the gender binary?
Human sexuality, despite what your culture and religion have taught you, is a spectrum. There's heterosexuality, homosexuality, asexuality, and any number of points between, something non-christian cultures have been accepting of for a long time.

OOOOh ! ON Liberals: (1)If you want an abortion fine, now its legal. If you think its murder, fine, don't have one. (2) If you want a gun fine go out and buy one or a dozen, or whatever, just don't go sticking it in my face. (3) If you want to marry a person with your same plumbing, fine, if you want to marry someone with different plumbing that's fine too. (4) Politeness and beManners used to be expected of people, now people think being mean and bullying/shaming people is the mark of sophistication. (5)One does not have to be the Olympic athlete alpha male to be a functioning member of society.

SORRY, not encouraging them to be dissatisfied with anything. But didn't some dead white guy once say "Better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a pig satisfied"? Parents are not necessarily liberals and not all liberals are exactly the same. encouraging them to explore, investigate, inquire, not buck up and accept the gender role Conservatives have planned for you because they sleep better at night knowing everybody ids exactly the same.

There is nothing wrong with a girl wanting to act like a boy, to do the things boys do.

A girl who believes that she is a boy needs help.

Yes, she does. But not in the way you think.

Worth noting that the American College of Pediatricians isn't a proper professional association.
