Or rather, the winter weather, and the way the incredibly rich Temple priests ignore the poor around them - who can't survive without help.

The Zion winter is a really important factor, and you can tell so much about characters by the way they either avoid it, turn inward during it, try and save the lives it threatens etc.

OTOH, plotwise, the Zion winter (well, north Haven winter really) is making it REALLY difficult for the CoGA to prosecute a war.

I can't shake the feeling that RFC has put the temple where it is for a very good reason which we don't know yet. But as you say, the winters in Zion makes some things really difficult, but also it also makes Zion into a pressure-cooker and I wonder how far Clynthan can keep the lid on it with how the war is going and with vicars being assassinated or purged.

Part of the inquisition power are their spies and informants, what would happen if such information was leaked out? Even if they are left unharmed, they would know their covers are blown.

Or Laser microphones - you bounce a laser off a window and look at the phase shift of the reflection - audio recovery is possible at a couple of miles. (Current (O.K. 1980's) technology). The other alternative would be the microwave beam powered bugs used in the 1960's by the KGB in the US Embassy in Moscow.

So you suggest that radiating energy at the Temple is a good idea? I think not.

If the windows are transmitting sound (which I doubt since they are probably made out of armorplast or something like it), you only need a camera with a very good lens to capture a reflection from the window and the pipe it through an algorithm that extracts and enhances any vibrations.
