Grav Plates and Inertial Compensators are not the same thing. Grayson had inertial compensators that used a different design than conventional Compensators; they weren't better than Manticoran compensators, but they did lead to better compensators once Manticore improved them

I do stand corrected. My point, rather obscurely was it is economically unfeasible to strip ship to the hull and completely upgrade the interior. The ENTIRE SLN ship is obsolete, and once you rebuild it its design is still 150 years old.
Didn't the lead mandarin [Kukukokopuff (sp)]shoot down a proposal because our friends would feel the need to build up a navy to protect themselves from us. The only market for this junker fleet would be other core worlds whose only intention would be to discourage the SLN from .. adventures. Again not addressing training an entire navy from scratch.

Unless a system has to really build up their fleet very quickly it would be better to invest the money in developing the infrastructure to build their own ships and equipment.

Longer term tactics are going to shift back to defense being supreme using missile pods using versions Keyhole, Apollo, and MDM. Politically it is also easier to get money for such defense spending then get money for things like SDs.

I wonder if any of the core worlds without SDFs of their own, or even with small SDFs, will try to covertly obtain ships from the reserve?

It seems to me as if there is not a lot of security around the various reserve "anchorage" areas, and there should be a fair number of ships below the wall in the reserve as well as the SDs.

It would give them a sense of having some protection in the years to come, even if it would only be against systems that only have the same SL tech.

Ships below the wall belong to Frontier Fleet and FF doesn't have a reserve. We have textev that older FF ships are sold for scrap when replaced (and diverted by trans-stellars like Technodyne)

There might be a very few sub-wallers in the reserve, but not anything close to "a fair number."

Battle Fleet has screening elements of its own, separate to the Frontier Fleet units

But those aren't in the reserve, and there aren't enough to be a proper screen; Frontier fleet is supposed to provide screening elements if screening is needed.

No, there are some in the reserve. Just not enough, even by BF doctrine. Which is less than they really need.

BF does maintain some screening formations, both active and Reserve. Just not as many as George thinks - look how few Filareta had. Plus, there was no mention of FF officers in Filareta's fleet and strong implication that Crandall had only one such officer(Hago) - which would not be the case if her screen was composed of FF vessels.

I would think BF has less than 5%, maybe 10% of the sub-wall units Frontier Fleet does. That's total; both active and reserve.

That was the entire point; said much better than I managed. :D

I suspect that the reason that Battle Fleet has any sub-wallers is so that they have something for junior officers to command on their way to commanding a SD.
