Its there to give Firebrand stuff to do and because RFC was visiting Eastern Europe when writing SoV.

Why would Firebrand be stirring up trouble on a planet that has no ties to the League or Manticore? What possible gain would the MAlignment receive from causing trouble on a world that is not in the zones of interest of either of the players they hope to manipulate into conflict?

These planets do have ties to the League. Part of OFS' role is to faciliate transstellar control of those systems, even if OFS hasn't officially taken them into Protectorate status. IIRC, the Polish planet had suffered some sort of plague and the government at the time signed over the rights to their system's resources in exchange for a medical solution.

The key of the matter is that OFS takes a percentage - an "administration fee" - so even when the planet isn't directly under OFS supervision, the SL bureaucracy derives income from those systems. It all adds up to quite a large proportion of federal revenue.

It would be an interesting exercise to combine SoV with the previous Shadows book.

Interleave them as it were.

Use the html ebook versions from baen and rewrite the chapter orders in the framework.

That is the current game plan. Exactly how I'll find a title with "Honor" that works is a bit more problematic.
Using her first name somewhere in every other book seemed like such a good idea . . . when I thought there'd be only six or seven of them.

OK, now that I've worked my way through the thread I can chime in. I'm glad to see that the next book will have "Honor" in the title. I've been waiting for that. :) I'm not going to read all of SOV until the hardback copy comes out, but I've already read the sample chapters and I can see why some people are ... distressed. I'm not one of those, but I can see how having this book be so spread out over the timeline could cause that. The first few chapters are happening at the same time (in universe) as events that happened three or four books previous. At the start of SOV, it's still set close to a year prior to the start of A Rising Thunder. For me it just works well to reinforce the immense scale of the Honorverse and how it would take months or even years for news to travel around the galaxy. While I personally like that kind of backtracking to fill in the details, I do understand others would more like to see what happens next. I do too, but I figure we'll get there. I read my first Honorverse book (Flag in Exile) back in the mid-90's, sitting on alert in a missile launch control center somewhere in Nebraska or Wyoming. I've followed Honor's story that long, and a bit longer won't hurt much. :D

It would probably be best to take all 3 series and interweave them - as far back as 1918pd - sadly, it would make for about 3 million words of reading and about 6 thousand pages. but everything would line up....

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

And can you find me a passage from chapter 2 or 3 of SoV that suggests that OFS has any presence on the planet in question?

It was the Czech planet had the plague (and a untimely raider attack). I believe that the thinking for the Polish planet was to cause so much trouble, the government (and local corporation) will request OFS help - leaving the revolutionaries swinging in the breeze because their "Manticore" support left them hanging.

The Czech planet was the one with the plague (and an untimely raider attack). I suspect that the thinking about the Polish world is that the government (and dominant corporation) are frightened enough to request OFS help, leaving the revolutionaries swinging in the breeze because their "Manticore" backers left them hanging.
