It's a fine book. You should all buy it.

Got it, haven't had the time to read it yet - so that means avoiding all the spoiler threads..

I think that a great many of us were expecting a great deal. One, this book has been built up as the first main line book in a long while. Two, we've seen a lot of text in the last few books that overlapped and repeated information so we were hungry for more. And third, even the Baen site implies quite strongly that we'll see something happen.

From Baen's banner for Shadow of Victory:
'A NEW HONOR HARRINGTON NOVEL
The Mesan Alignment Finally Revealed, as Honor Faces her Ultimate Enemy!'

I'm fairly certain that this is a very misleading statement.

Completely misleading, one might even say mendacious.

I disagree, this constitutes something of a spoiler.

A warning might have been cool.

It suggests that as honor is an admiral of the fleet, the one stationed in manticore, will take the fight against the enemy her self. We assume henke is going to Mesa, so if she is truly going after alignment, she will act against the Felix junction. We don't know how far the journey would be.
Once taken, it could be secured by the alliance by their allies near torch.

From previous books, we know some scientists are secretly being moved to that hidden world and the guy set up to ensure they don't get captured is dead. One of the scientists might be aware of the junction and how to access it.

The alignment might have been able to pass off everything as a grand hoax, but the sudden reveal of a new junction and an established new colony world, would be very hard to explain. It is not something that could be easily fabricated.

Spoiler alert !!!!!

Yes, that would a reasonable assumption. Unfortunately what we seem to have gotten was "OOPS Thing One: AcoG
and OOPS Thing Too [sic]: SoV.

Which I should possibly repost in Titles we'd like to see.
Helas,chou, Je m'en fache.
