A rock that big has to be very precisely shaped and of very uniform composition to be of any value as a precision weapon. Otherwise ablation and tumbling leave you with a CEP in the km range, unless you're shooting straight down - which you can't do by just de-orbiting the rock - in which case it drops to [as a WAG] a few tens of meters.

If the OBS is being used for the intended purpose, how much precision does it need?

If Clyntahn got control of the OBS, for example, he'd be happy to take out Tellesberg and everything for several hundred miles around it, and would have no problem with saturation bombing to do it.

I would suspect...no.

If the control station is in the basement of the Temple --and what Father Paityr said when he was brought into the inner circle seems to open the way for that as a possibility-- it would seem that none of the Temple's occupants are aware of its presence.

Enough to destroy a convent with a single shot :)

Don-
We certainly hope they aren't. Father Paityr is aware of it because it was revealed to his family in the Vision of Schueler displayed by the Key, and there's no indication thus far Schueler told anyone else about it.

After the departure of the remaining lesser Angels, the Archangels certainly wouldn't want that sort of thing lying around where standard memory-wiped colonists would stumble across it.

I suspect there's more to learn about Schueler, and precisely why he chose to give that information to the Wylsyn family before he left.

 True.

But it brings up another question. Elsewhere, RFC asked "What made you think the OBS can't reload?"

I don't see any reason it can't, but where does it get the ammo?

Grabbing random space junk with tractor beams is one thing. The sort of specially produced projectiles you suggest are a different matter.

I don't recall RFC specifying the OBS can reload without assistance from other systems. Which begs the question of other automated systems up and running. Well, shut down but may be initiated.

OWL can take raw materials and build a PICA. All the OBS needs is raw material to build KEWs. All it really needs is a small heat shield of stronger materials and a lot of aerodynamically shaped mass. Even random space junk should provide enough of the stronger materials needed for the heat shield plus enough "rock" or other material to cast into the aerodynamic shaped mass behind the heat shield.

The OBS has a maintenance & repair system which is probably used to reload it.

And the OBS can't just drop rocks (as someone said), if it's in geostationary orbit they need to be accelerated into the right heading for them to fall into the planets gravity well.

From the description Merlin gives us, it was a _lot_ of hits, not just several. IIRC, he saw overlapping craters, and OWL estimated that there had been 3 waves of impacts. Unfortunately, there's no size range for the craters, so we can't estimate impact energy.
