Actually, given how big the Galaxy is, how the Honorverse is only in one small part of it, and how inexpensive large-scale space lift is in this universe, it is all too plausible to me that some part of the MA could head out into the great unknown and never be found again until they wanted to be found.

Also, the relatively high abundance of habitable planets in the Honorverse and the willingness of the Mesans to engage in the engineering of their populace to adapt to said planets also gives them quite a few more options than they would have otherwise.

You are missing a vital point. The Mesans (ie. Detweiler and co) doesn't want to disappear into the great unknown. They want to keep tabs on what happens and steer events to fit their agenda. That's why they set up a star system a long time ago where they can hide in plain sight.

With that said, they would like the rest of the galaxy to be oblivious to their whereabouts or that they even exists - but the GA knows that something is up and will make sure they get to the bottom of the Mesan Alignment and who is behind it.
