She doesn't seem the retiring type. She did seem to like teaching at Saganami Island. Once the wars are over and she is no longer needed as a combat commander, I could maybe see her stepping away from fleet command and doing another stint there.

I agree Henry, I don't think she's the retiring type either. Certainly not internally. She can't. I suspect that Honor contributes just as much to her high metabolism from "thinking" as she does from physical caloric burn. Great thinkers burn calories. I suspect that Honor's brain will continue to use near the same amount of body energy far into her advanced age. So she's going to have to have that excitement in her life - to burn the mental calories.

Yet I think it all a moot point. If Honor is breathing, someone is always going to find a reason to reactivate her. Or need her. Last time it was Wesley. They can always use him again.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

I always thought she'd retire to the Harrington Freehold on Sphinx and win the Sphinx hang-gliding championships for three decades or more.

I can see Grayson upgrading their officer training academy by asking Honor to redesign it from the ground up. Saganami Island can't fulfill their officer training needs now or in the future. She might also be asked to establish a GSN Crusher to rival Saganami Island's.

The Isaiah MacKenzie Naval Academy was upgraded and reopened in 1921 PD according to HoS. HH could bounce back and forth between IM and SI as a guest lecturer or teach a class or two. With the middies having fist fights to get into her classes. Also with her dinner parties imagine the dinner guests like HADM Judah Yanakov or VADM Marc Brentworth or VADM Walter Brentworth (ret.)

Four score or more tears from now?

I think Harrington will end up with an "adjunct military" vessel doing her own thing, like PIRATES' BANE's own Thomas Bachfish.

And wouldn't it be great storyline if Honor and Thomas were reunited, on a common front against a common foe? Thomas in an upgraded PIRATES' BANE and Honor in an updated heavy cruiser that is truly FEARLESS.

I'd sure like to see what PIRATES' BANE and a heavy cruiser can do together.

The Fish and the Salamander together "again" at last.

The joy of certain authors - what perks of a writer when he can retire in a completely different world far far away.

She has far better thing to do with her time than trying to run a tramp cargo service.

I can see both of these happening. Especially the fist fights amongst Middies trying to get into her classes. A semester or two with Honor, the Salamander, Admiral Harrington, and Grayson's Lady Harrington will look like you're padding your resume. And it be padded good. LOL

And you know her, also retired, Husband will show up as a guest lecturer. I can imagine a retired Honor would have many surprise guest lecturers.

But I can't see Honor relying solely on teaching to "entertain" herself after a couple decades or so. I can see lots of "hiatuses." Unofficial, you see.

Unless a tramp cargo service is exactly what she's trying to appear to be.

Honor. Not the Salamander. Not the military officer. Will chase the MAlign 'til the ends of time if only one of them is alive.

Don't think that's true? Notice how she nods off into her own little world every time something reminds her of Oyster Bay? Do note the seething fire deeply within those irises.

And she'll do it in a tramp freighter if need be.

Besides, White Haven's staff always thought "The Lady is a Tramp."

History will record that one of Harrington's classes will remember "That Fateful Field Trip."
