From How Firm a Foundation, pg. 347--"'Then the Archangel Langhorne stood upon Mount Heilbronn, looking down upon the Field of Sabana, where so many had fallen opposing evil, and his eyes were wet with tears, and he said, "The time must come when only the sword of justice can oppose the many swords of evil--of pestilent ambition, of greed, of selfishness and cruelty, of hatred and terror."'"
Supposedly, this event happened toward the end of the War Against the Fallen. Also, supposedly, Langhorne died two years prior to the start of the War Against the Fallen. Himself has said that Chihiro wasn't against using holograms to propagate the belief that Langhorne was an Archangel, so what do you think? Was this one of those? ~Tonto |

If the timing is right (as you suggest) - hologram.

Holograms or other means to fake Langhorne's presence (specially built robot, maybe - to allow interaction with physical objects) and/or outright fabrication of events,

Or possibly a straightforward falsehood — after all, how many would have seen him? And who is going to have the brass face to ask "Precisely where was he?" A mountain covers a lot of territory, and if the reply is always "Not just there", then what does one do?
As has been said before, history is written by the winners. . |

The most probable answer - hologram (or nonsentient android imitator), created by someone of surviving Archangels. It is highly unlikely that Langhorne survived the nuclear attack. Its remotely possible that he have backup copy of his personality stored somewhere, but he clearly wasn't in charge by the time of WaF. ------------------------------
Oh well, if shortening the front is what the Germans crave, Let's shorten it to very end - the length of Fuhrer's grave. (Red Army lyrics from 1945) |

Totally agree with you; it's mentioned a few times that Langhorne did not survive the pocket nuc. Have to stop agreeing with you Dilandu people might think you have swayed me to your way of thinking. (I know I haven't been posting, but I have been ghosting you Dilandu ... lol ) |

Well, you must agree that I'm usually quite persuasive) ------------------------------

I always assumed the scene was an outright fabrication. It never happened, even if the battle talked about did. It was something Chihiro or someone wrote into the Writ to sell to the masses.
Edit: IOW, it's about as accurate as a Hollywood movie that's "based on real events". |

Not always but you do put up very strong arguments even when some may not be how others view them Would be dead boring if we all always agreed with one another |

I assume outright falsification. The actual records of what happened during the War Against the Fallen are what was recorded in the Testimonies by the Adams and Eves, and we already know those were edited by the remaining Angels after the last Adams and Eves had died. The whole Field of Sabana might be an invention, and it's a good question as to whether there were pitched land battles of any real size. The impression I've gotten from the sparse information provided was persistent guerilla warfare. One thing I am curious about was the aim of the Fallen, and what they would have done had they won. ______ Dennis |
