What class will the first ships to be built in the new Manticore yards be?

LACs. ;)

What comes next depends upon whether BuShips' next generation still has a DD bigger than a CL. SD(P)s will be last, though CLACs might come into service quicker than BCs.

It's a no-brainer. Smaller shipyards are quicker to set up than bigger shipyards and smaller ships are quicker to build than larger ships.

Beyond LAC's your probably looking at DD and CL's first, then larger ships. They will more than likely use existing designs for ease of construction. Not to say BuShips won't be busy working on new designs.

I'd actually say CA's just because they are more ... universal useful than a DD/CL. But anything bigger would be difficult.

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

Hmmmm, interesting. Since they will pretty much see action right away it would behoove the top brass to expand the scope of doctrine these small ships presently operate under. We've already seen that though destroyers can't go toe to toe with heavy cruisers they can nevertheless handle them quite well. So, wolf packs?

LACs are pretty much factory built to get the numbers they have. So there is a LOT of work needed to get there, as they also use specialized parts not use elsewhere. Like somewhere to refine the plutonium, as that would have blown up and was probably in Grayson anyhow.

I suspect they would start with DDs as they are more common and require less trained workers per, and cost less to throw away. Realize the first few ships are likely to be very slow to build and at least somewhat flawed as 90 some percent of the workforce is building their first ship.

Another interesting question is: what designs they will build? Will the new shipyards resume building the same designs that were being produced before Oyster Bay. Ie, Roland class DDs, Saganami-C CAs, Nike BCs, and Invictus SD(P)s. Or will Buships have come up with new designs for ships while the orbital stations and shipyards are being rebuilt?

If I recall, RFC has said that the next generation beyond the Medusa-Bs that were mostly destroyed by Oyster Bay would be the ones produced.

Aside from missile production, it's a bit of a poser as to which ships will get priority. I was re-reading SftS and Thomas Caparelli mentioned they didnt at that time have the manpower to crew another large building surge beyond what they were working on, and most of that launched just before Oyster Bay.

I'm guessing that replacement of existing inventory with new build ships, but not a huge expansion in hulls is the first order of business.

Did any Medusa-Bs actually ever get produced? I thought they were still building Invictus class ships when Oyster Bay happened. If I remember, Buships was trying to maximize build rates so they kept building Invictuses because of the time delay that would be involved in putting the Medusa-B design into production.

What effect are the "GA Special SDs" going to have on Manticore's choices for what ships types get priority?

I'm not sure exactly who the GA specials are being built for. Beowulf? or replacements for all GA members to create absolute interoperability?

Are there going to be GA Specials smaller than SDs built? What lessons might BuShips learn from such a collaboration that can be applied to a purely Manticoran design?
